Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello,
This is my first post, and I need some support. I am having a really bad bout of anxiety. I would almost say like a nervous breakdown.
I had bouts like this in the past, but this one is so bad. So about 4 years ago my mother unexpectedly passed away from an aneurysm. She was only 52. It was shocking and awful.
I went to a counselor and it still hurts a lot. I started a job and it is extremely stressful. Before the holidays I was feeling more stress as the project I was working on was failing. With the date of the anniversary of my moms passing is approaching I started to feel more anxious. Then .. I guess I reached a breaking point..
So something strange happened. I got an allergic reaction to some food. So I got hives and itchiness. I went to the doctor he told me that it would resolve itself in 2 to 3 weeks. (It has been one week.. ugh).
With my anxiety triggered everytime I get itchy I can't sleep and freak out going into hypochondria thinking all these other things are actually wrong with me instead of thinking its just my immune system reacting in the evening trying to get rid of whatever my body is metabolizing.
It's been a week of anxiety, but it's just as bad as when I was trying to come off of benzodiazepines. ( I got addicted taking them 10 years ago, and got off them because I used healthier coping mechanisms, and I was anxiety free)
So here I am in bed.. itchy, anxious and need to sleep before going to work in the am. I made an appointment with a counselor again.
In the meantime, what are your coping mechanisms when you are having a really bad week with anxiety for sleep.
Thank you so much

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
I am so sorry you are having anxiety like this. I can totally relate. For me it helps to get out of bed and busy my mind with something else. Anything to take my mind off of whatever is happening with my body. I know this means less sleep, but I don't like associating my bed with anxiety, so it helps.
It also helps to self-soothe; I speak to myself as if I were a loving caring adult trying to calm a frightened child, while softly stroking the back of my hand. Sounds silly, but it REALLY helps me. I round this out by jotting down my feelings: notating why I think I'm feeling this way and what I think I can do to change the way I look at and react to things. It helps to re-focus my mind on finding solutions as opposed to concentrating on my anxiety.
How are you feeling now?
By the time I reach the end of a week so bad that I am suffering insomnia, I am generally using more coping mechanisms than I have the energy to type this morning. That level of anxiety doesn't go away with a wave of any of the magic wands I've tried.
Posts such as the one you made here are one of my most reliable coping mechanisms. They help me sort the psycho snot knots of ^it^ all and offer me the comfort of knowing I am not alone with ^it^. Sometimes I even pick up new coping mechanisms to try in the struggle of ^it^.
I, too, am wondering how you are feeling now. Did making this post help any?
Stabilizing support while you find what works for you. Welcome aboard.
I get stress hives from my anxiety. Mine most often look like bug bites. Itchy little buggers. Sometimes they come in rash formats. This season I am using topical, OTC Lidocaine to relieve the itching.
I went to the doctor twice and he said it was an allergic reaction and I wasn't giving enough time to let my reaction get better.
Time to try to sleep again. Thank you all. Nice to talk to people who understand ♡
My med pros call it, "Psoriasis" and/or "Eczema." By whatever name, ^it^ runs through my highly dysfunctional birth family like a freight train. I, strictly personal, credit psychotherapy as my greatest source of relief. My sibs and their off-spring are still getting allergy tests, etc. Scratch, scratch. . .
When I start to feel anxious or badly I try to focus on my breathing, hold my chest/heart with my hands, tell myself that its okay to feel this way and hold myself like I would a dear friend and apologise to myself that I have to suffer like this right now. I tell myself that I'm here for myself and that I'm not going anywhere and that we will get through this. When anxiety comes up I know that my something in me wants to be heard.
I hope you feel some peace today and feel loved.
