I was on Effexor to try to prevent migraines and help with my depression. Didn't really help.
In addition, I have some lasting side effects. I have "Effexor Belly" which doctors deny happens but you can find more about it online. I gained about 30 lbs. - all seemed to be on my abdomen. Off Effexor for over 10 years, I kept the belly as a consolation prize.
Going off Effexor I felt very floaty and disconnected. That has gotten incrementally better but I take Chinese herbs to help counteract that side-effect. This was also something I'd heard others complain about.

What wound up working for me was:
For depression, I was tested to see what my Vitamin D levels were and they were super low - causing me to feel depressed. I take Vitamin D3 now and use a light box. That's all I needed. There's a book called "The VItamin D Solution" that is excellent.
For anxiety, I take L-Theanine and Propranalol. L-Theanine is a natural amino acid that is very calming. Propranalol is a very old, well proven blood pressure medication that regulates heart rate and breaks the chain of anxiety.
I hope you find good answers that work for you.
