Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hopefully this will give you some relief.
I actually am on a low dose of an antidepressant and low dose of Xanax (generic) (meaning I do not get a lot per refill) which is fine because I do not want to become addicted. But I know it is there if I need it
Good luck to you!
Xanax will cause sleepiness. I've not personally taken either one, but from what I've read, I think going on Buspar sounds like a great idea. It is not at all like Xanax though. They are different types of medications.
You know how when you take a Xanax, you feel calm about 15 minutes later? Well, Buspar isn't like that. You take the prescribed dose of Buspar each day, as your doctor says to take it, and it will take 2-4 weeks for you to feel the *good* effects of the Buspar. Then you will feel better consistently every day on the Buspar, so hang in there for a month. It's hard to be patient I know, but hang in there for about a month, to get the good effects of the Buspar. And then it will be good because the effects last longer than a Xanax, and like you said, without the addictive qualities.
Also, I just read that Buspar isn't meant for long long term use (as in years of taking it), as it's effectiveness wears off over the years.
But for now, sure, give it a try and I really hope it helps you! I personally think anxiety medication helps me SO much. I seriously could not go one day without my anxiety medications. Helps calm me and take my anxiety and panic away. Everyone is different though. Are you in any kind of therapy for anxiety? I find therapy, journaling.... helps, too.
