Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I have a dilemma that I'm not sure how to navigate through. I own a part-time business with my good friend, and it has been successful over the last couple of years. The problem is that my wife and I do not like his wife and kids, and they always want to be a part of the business. His wife is extremely neurotic and I feel a ton of anxiety just being around her. His kids are aggravating as hell because they are socially awkward and become embarrassing in a professional situation. I have tried my best to overlook all of this until tonight. This weekend, we are working a big convention, and my friend's wife told him he could just sleep late tomorrow and that she would take his place to help me work the convention. To me, this is unacceptable, because my friend and I own and manage the business, not his wife and kids. I mean we are working this incredibly important event, and his wife is basically telling him to get his beauty sleep!?!? WTF?!
At the last event we worked at, his wife literally let her 10 year old daughter take control of the money transactions with customers. I was absolutely livid about this. It was incredibly unprofessional. I like working with my business partner, but wasn't expecting his family to be part of the package going into this. It's super frustrating.

Are your wife and kids involved in the business too? If they are, he might think it is somehow "okay" to let families be so involved.
If it was me, I would text your friend (tonight) and say "Hey Joe, see you bright and early at 7 AM tomorrow at the front entrance of the convention. Should be a good day for you and me. Can you bring the so and so item in the morning? See you there."
In other words, try to make it more of you and him. Not you and what his wife decides to do with the business (which is not even hers). Just bypass her completely.
I think speaking up more times, and confirming and going through only HIM more and more times, will show that you are working with him... not working with his wife... and kids(!).
Ditto for friends navigating the bewildering world of love and family.
Just opining. . .
Gentle support while you find your way through the challenge. It is a toughie.
Leave family members out of the discussion.
He may want to help his family learn through the business and since he is not talking with you about it, instead just doing it, keep it simple, remaining just between the two of you.
Keep the feelings out of it, and keep it professional and business first.
In the friendship department, not mixing the two is the safest way to remain business partners successfully.
Your feelings are valid for this business situation.
However, feelings do not pay the bills, so keeping it simple, just between the two of you, gives you a professional lead in for how you want to represent the business.
It's the two of you, not a family + business arrangement.
Writing it out here is the safest way to help resolve your concerns privately prior to making any statements to your business partner.
Use positive direction images and words to share your concerns, especially since the feelings are so strong.
I hope this works out well for you.
Keep it on a business level.
Express your feelings and concerns.
Good luck.
