General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I recently found out how totally codependent I am. My poor boyfriend has been through it this year.... Today I sent him a picture of me from work - something funny (with a banana). He looked at it and did not reply.
I could literally feel my heart start to flutter a little more the longer he ignored me. I sent a text passive aggressivly apologizing........ nothing.
Now I am making shit up in my mind, believing I did something to displease him. Making myself even more insane.... asking "what if he is talking to another girl, what if he thinks I sent that picture to another guy, what if , what if, what if.........." Oh My God - I hate that I do this to myself. If anyone else has this dibilitating fear of being alone - please commiserate with me.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Even now, some 7 years later, if he doesn’t answer my call or isn’t as talkative as usual, I still begin to fill in the blanks with ridiculous reasons why he might be upset with me, or might be upto no good. Those “what if”s are not good for our pear of mind at all!
I’m afraid I don’t have much advice for you on this one, but hopefully it’s a little bit of a comfort to know you’re not alone in feeling like this.
What I would say, and it’s a bit of a cliche but it does help me: focus on yourself. Put your phone down and occupy yourself with a book, or a hobby you enjoy, or walk to the shop and back. Distract yourself and try to get out of your own head for a while :)
Feel free to message me if ever you need to vent x
I do need someone to bounce these crazy thoughts on when they are happening and I would love to talk to someone who understands.. I WILL take you up on your offer!
That’s exactly what the anxiety/codependency does to is though, it makes us mentally jump to the worse case scenario, even when our rational side knows that’s highly unlikely. At least, that’s definirely what happens for me!
Please find a saying, phrase, word, image or something that works to pull you back "in the moment" when this happens.
Each of you are intelligent, smart, and able to comprehend what's happening.
Here's to positive healing for all of you! My heart aches knowing this is happening.
