However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello good people. I'm 52 with heart disease. I've had a bypass and multiple stents. I get chest discomfort on many days that can last for hours. It's not brought on by exertion though. My cardiologist isn't worried that it's cardiac. But it is uncomfortable and still worries me. It seems connected to anxiety, but often it happens without any obvious triggers. Sometimes distraction like exercise helps alleviate it, or Xanax, or a glass or two of wine, or sexual activity.
Does anyone else suffer from this?

Try keeping a journal when you feel your anxiety: time, what you were doing and what emotions your feeling. Sometimes trends develop and you are able to identify triggers. Also relaxation is key to helping relieve anxiety. You might try deep breathing using your lower belly which can relieve the fight or flight instinct caused by anxiety. Also meditation, gentle exercise or anything you find relaxing can help.
I hope that you are able to relieve your anxiety. Best wishes.
Descriptions from Med Pros have led me to believe that anxiety **is** an exertion on my heart and that continual anxiety/stress exertion is very likely to result in permanent heart damage.
As mentioned above, breathing in through nose, out through mouth, then in through nose and out through nose will have a natural calming effect.
Keeping a daily private journal will help, the more details you provide, the easier it is to sort through all the patterns.
And, yes, since you've experienced discomfort and recognize it as discomfort, you're aware that distraction works.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
