Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Validating that belief is part of how I cope with the all too many times that belief crashes with my mental health issues. The validation makes it easier to sort my faith from my psychoses(pl). Yea, there might really be an actual demon on my shoulder whispering anxiety lies, but I still have control over whether to believe the lies. Full on demonic possession? I doesn't know, but I am willing to bet that would be much harder for the demons than Hollywood makes it look.
Don't know if I'm making sense, or Knot. It is a slippery subject. I'm mostly offering gentle commiseration and wishing I had easy answers for both of us.
I believe that I had said before that it's REALLY common for atheists who used to be Christians to have nightmares and fears for 1-5 years.
If you are debating your beliefs it might help to talk to some other atheists.
If you continue to be Christian...it might really, really, really be comforting to talk to your priest.
Whichever path is right for you, heartfelt hugs, Patti
The simple truth is that demons and monsters are not real. They are made up to scare you, by people who want to have power over you.
The first response is clearly vague nonsense. Our physicists have accurately predicted the existence of the Higgs Boson and THEN proved its existence via The Large Hadron Collider in CERN, Switzerland.
To this example of humanity harnessing the fundamental laws of the universe we have the idea of: "Magic demon creatures floating around the cosmos" which apparently science(?) hasn't "measured" yet.. (Scientists 'measure' things.. Not science..)
We can also see clear cognitive dissonance as the poster chooses to justify paranoid hallucinations by self-confirming their existence.
You adults should feel bad for misleading this person. Stop doomspeaking about god and satan, grow up. :)
There is nothing of the sort that you should ever be afraid of. I promise you!
Your anxiety is caused over the thought of becoming possessed by a demon/devil.
The comment above me chastises the existence and rebukes others for their religious beliefs (again why this is so hard to discuss because they are so intensely personal) and simply shoots 'they don't exist' out there. In respect to him, that's his belief. You are asking based on your belief which you obviously have or you never would have asked. so he really shouldn't have such venom on something he doesn't even believe. But the question remains.
If you believe the Bible to be the true word of God then you must also believe that God is the greater (farrrrrrrrrr greater) and satan the defeated (and it wasn't even God that whooped him, the Arch-Angel Michael did that...no contest either). If he is defeated then God has rule, if you believe in God and are working on your salvation then you should find comfort in the devil holds NO POWER over God and is even subject to God (satan couldn't touch Job without God's approval). Can the devil tempt? I think he can whisper, but we still have all power over our actions, how can you know good and evil like God said in Genesis if the choice was unbalanced? So am i saying possession is impossible, no. but i think that unless you accept satan as your divinity that he has no better chance of possessing you than I do.
Remember Paul said the war for our soul is not with people and their opinions (mine included) but within us and our choices we choose (and have complete control over). If you choose God then you got a really powerful guy on your side. Love
