Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

It's been a few days since I felt anxious. My sister texted me today and asked me to hang out. I went out of town with her and her husband. We went shopping at target and then to a really busy and really loud restaurant. After dinner we went to Barnes and noble. One of my favorite places. I was standing there looking at books when I felt like I all of a sudden couldn't catch my breath. My breathing got quick my heart was pounding its way out of my chest. I tried calming down and I turned to look for my sister. By the time I spotted her, my entire body went cold except for my ears. My ears had a hot burning sensation. I went to sit down but all I could feel was my racing heart. My body apparently decided we were hitting the flight response because I just wanted to run around and run outside. I was pacing. Finally we left. Driving down the road I'm typing this out, having another attack. My chest is tight, the back of my head feels hot, my body is cold, I feel choked up. Honestly, I think it was the caffeine and I just have to ride it out. It's such a scary feeling. I'll really probably give up caffeine all together.

Hello- I am new to the group

Jay's podcasts are really good. I watch them on YouTube for free. Today, I watched his video about motivation. In fact, I've been watching a few videos on this subject. Jay gave us an assignment to complete the following sentence: I am stuck because? I don't describe myself as stuck, but to finish the sentence, I would say that I am stuck because I am tired. When I have energy, I do...
I hope you can get rest tonight, and think about the fun time you had out today. :) At least you got out, saw your sister, went shopping, out in another town.... you did a lot. Be proud of yourself.
A full and fun day like you described often leaves me over-stimulated and panicky, with or without the caffeine boost. I call that side effect, "A fun-time hangover." I try to use the fresh fun memories as a calming tool. The panic ripples are a price worth paying with a fun time hangover. Not so much for the road rager who just clipped my driving safety zone. . .
I've gotten allot of mileage from the guidance of a particular Nurse Practitioner I worked with for a long while to treat my episodes (eg, a panic attack) like a case of psychic flu. Be gentle with yourself while you are fighting the bug and don't rush the convalescence. Too much too soon can cause relapses.
That particular NP went on to become a doctor and is still searching for the cure for the Common Me. For now, soft foods lots of fluid and plenty of rest. Call me in the morning.
