Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. Hey I'm new to this group or not really but I haven't posted anything or checked this site for updates since I made my account a while ago but anyways haha.. I feel like I am doing pretty well for myself lately, but I also feel like I have issues im not dealing with, so I just wana kind of vent..:) I never really had to deal with anxiety or social anxiety until i was in highschool and I started to care about what people thought about me bu tnow at this point in my life, I'm in college, and when it comes to my peers and people at school or work I can chill but like the second someone starts to get closer with me or try to build a relationship with me I get freaked out and I act kind of cold or distant in order to hide the fact that im lk scared.... i met this amazing guy and weve been together for a month now and I really care about him and he loves me and I love him but its the same thing I feel like im scared to get close with him, I'm scared of getting hurt or im scared of being rejected I dont know how to explain it to be honest but its tiring... im reading this book about past traumas and how they can carry on throughout your mind and body even when you think you've moved on or healed from it.. my ex was emotionally manipulative and made me scared to show affection, becaue he would pull away when i did, So I learned to be as distant as possible with him if I wanted him to show love towards me.. I hate that I have carried this mindset into my current relationship.. this boy deserves soo much love and affection and I feel guilty that I automatically pull away from him when I start to have feelings for him I want to be able to explain this all to him and let him know thaat I'm sorry and it's not his fault but I'm scared he'll think I'm damaged or that I have too much emotional baggage, I don't want him to think my ex still has any part in my life or who I am and he is such a great person I know he wouldn't treat me differently but in the moment I can never be brave enough to be open and honest with him. Hopefully as we get closer, things will work themselves out... We'll see what happens! Any advice would be appreicated, peace and love <3

Strikes me, if you can't offload your damage and leave it behind you, you owe it to this bloke to let him know it's not him, it's you.
Or else just ditch it. Shut your eyes, hold your nose and just jump. He can't break your heart if you don't make it brittle.
In building a relationship, you have to build confidence in your ability to process information "in the moment" and not comparing to previous experience. Every time you catch yourself doing the old pattern of thought, add something positive to help you move forward.
Best wishes.
