Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

This is difficult to put into a brief post that folks might want to read. I have struggled with anxiety off and on since I was a pre-teen. My parents divorced when I was 9. I’m now on the door step of my 45th birthday. In my adulthood anxiety has been situational and episodic – there is more often than not a specific source I can point to. The current cycle I’m in has been ebbing and flowing since September. The current source is home ownership and the high cost. Money has become and anxiety trigger as my adulthood has gone on. Large, one-time expenses, especially. In October, we noticed a roof leak – on our 10-12 year old home. We have consulted with 3 different roofers, and the diagnosis is that the roof was not properly nailed down, and the nails heads are weathering and rusting away prematurely. We’re on the schedule to get the roof replaced. It will sting, but we can absorb it. My big issue at the moment is What sort of damage has been done that we just can’t see or don’t know about yet?” “Where else is it leaking, yet just not getting through?” The ever present companion of anxiety sufferers – The Unknown.
My wife is aware of the entire history, and is very patient and supportive. My logical mind is not winning the battle right now. I have tried prayer, positive thinking, staying on my exercise routine. I just can’t seem to get my head completely out of the fog. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to responses.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
As far as the anxiety itself (24/7 here), try googling The Anxiety Guy (Dennis Simsek). He is absolutely fantastic. He has podcasts, youtube videos and you can even follow him on various social media sites. I love putting earbuds in and listening to him. Sometimes I wonder how he got into my brain because he speaks what I feel.
I will add that your anxiety disorder has everything to do with your childhood. Dennis Simsek addresses this as the root cause of anxiety disorders in many of his podcasts and videos. When I found him, I felt like I struck gold.
Another recommendation to you is Running On Empty by Dr. Jonice Webb. It is about Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). I bet you will find yourself in this book someplace. I know I did.
Good luck to you.
Sometimes, anxiety makes me feel like I want to crawl out of my skin. My wife has wondered (not in a mean spirited way) if on some level, it meets some sort of need. I cannot think of what that might be, I absolutely hate feeling this way. I want nothing more tha not feel calm, confident and hopeful. There' also that voice inside of that's saying "You're approaching 45 years old, you don't get to do this anymore..."
Good roofers like this one are gold to their clients. Their word is their business.
Ok. Anxiety is natural. It is actually a coping mechanism, and the fact that your wife shared with you that it might be a coping method gives you more strength to get back within normal range.
When we meet up with our childhood memories of difficult times, due to current difficult times, it's really hard to remember that our feelings are real, but not necessary to our decision making management.
In other words, writing out your feelings here is one way to release them to where you can see what patterns are coming through.
No matter how old you get, when you get anxious, you're going to feel less than 100%.
When it feels overwhelming being a homeowner, go back and think about what made you feel good about being a homeowner. That will help you reset each and every time you feel lost in your thoughts.
Best wishes! You're doing great!
Gentle empathy, FullMeasure. What's a logical soul to do? Onward through the fog? ? ? Build a better foghorn? ? ?
Sigh. . . We get by with a little help from our friends.
Anyone who doesn't suffer from anxiety has no idea. I've tried telling my husband how it is but he doesn't get it because I 'look and act' so normal. I'll tell hiim, there'll be a few seconds of silence, then it's....ummm, what are we having for supper.
Of course, sleep is nearly impossible with this scourge. I bought some ZzzQuil and by golly it works. It's just liquid benadryl but it works for me.
I just got the book called The Tapping Solution by Nick Ortner. Gonna try that.
