Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I am just looking for reassurance, I think. I am new here. Just joined today. I have dealt with anxiety, depression, health anxiety, and panic attacks for twelve years.
It seems as though when I am doing mentally poor, I develop various physical symptoms. These symptoms are usually muscular aches, joint pains, muscle weakness, dizziness, and feeling like im floating through life, not really participating. I also deal with heart palpitations.
I have seen various doctors over the years and most of the things that I had been concerned about relating to how my body was feeling, have all come back fine.
Right now I am dealing with a ton of muscle achiness and joint pain. My muscles of my arms and legs feel so weak at times that I become afraid that I won't be able to hold myself upright. The bottoms of my feet hurt sometimes. Sometimes my muscles actually burn. This current episode has been going on since the end of July, but I've experienced two other episodes this year prior to this one.
I started effexoe xr in March after the Celexa I had been on for five years became ineffective. I dont think my body is handling the effexor well. It is the first time I've been on anything other than a SSRI, so I asked my psychiatrist if I could switch back to a SSRI since they usually work for me. I just started that transition two days ago, taking a low dose of effexor and a low dose of lexapro.
Because I have health anxiety, I am obsessively thinking that I must have lympthoma or some strange, horrible autoimmune disease or parasite that is attacking the muscles of my body. And I know that it's most likely the anxiety and depression, but i guess I just need some reassurance.
Anyone else experience the flu like symptoms with their anxiety and depression flare ups? No fever or respiratory symptoms. But all of the body aches, pain, weakness, and fatigue.
Thank you for your time.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
Yes, I get flu like symptoms with my psychotic episodes, along with a host of other physical symptoms. Anxiety is a creative disorder that seems to shift shapes and direction quicker 'n' a cloud bank.
In the late 80's and early 90's, when combat PTSD was still being called, "Shell Shock," I worked with a VA nurse practitioner who taught me to treat my psychotic breaks (now called, "PTSD flashbacks) like "psychic flu." Lots of rest, soft foods and plenty of fluids. Don't rush the convalescence. Taking the time to recover fully from each episode reduces the risk of relapse. Her coaching was so effective that I am still using her methods decades later.
But that is me. . .
Gentle support while you find what works for you, Helena. Welcome aboard.
Yes, as Arfie says, those physical sensations often are the first clue that our anxiety is way out of balance.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
And welcome. You will find some great support and nice people to talk too. At first I was experiencing dizziness too. I did all kinds of tests. Blood work, scans and saw different doctors and everything came back normal. Which was a relief. At the time I was going through a lot of loss in my life. So that's kinda of when my anxiety started. Yes I get muscle pain and muscle aches. I do a lot of yoga and that seems to really help. Staying hydrated to is important. Well I hope you feel better and it was very nice to meet you. It’s amazing what our minds can do to our bodies. Anytime we are dealing with stress, anxiety, etc our bodies will respond. We do not even realize that the response will appear in the shape of a symptom. I myself have experienced this. It’s very frustrating. I can relate to the health anxiety, especially now in the world today. Try to take one day at a time and as difficult as it is try not to overthink. Like italianmomma4ever said. Stay hydrated and take care of yourself the best you can. Because that can lead to symptoms as well. Hang in there and hope you are feeling better soon
I am looking forward to getting off this effexor and onto the lexapro. I really think my body is not handling the effexor well at all. Sometimes we just have a feeling, don't we?
