Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I am a 40 something year old with a really good life. I have struggled with anxiety my whole life and it seems like every couple of years or so it goes off the charts. The triggers are legitimate but my reaction are disproportionate to the size of the problem. I have a wonderful husband who is at a complete loss to understand what I go through.
I am a cat lover. The vet just told me that my cat and little best buddy of 16 years may not have a lot of time left. He he is not sick. He is eating and cuddling and acting like a normal seniour cat but the vet believes he has a disease which I cannot even talk about, and I am out of control. I alternate between crying and pacing around in panic. I can eat very little. I am not sleeping well and I feel panic as soon as I wake up. My husband points out that my cat seems healthy and is content now and that I should be living in the moment and enjoying every minute and I know this, but most of the time I cannot control the panic about what it's going to like when he gets sick and how I'm going to be able to live without him. I even panicked this morning when I realized that a couple of years worth of pictures of him may be gone because we threw out an old computer. I am feeling guilty that I not able to control this better because my family and my cat need me to be strong but I am really struggling. I wish I had a thicker skin and could deal with things like this better.

I have toys. So the ones I have not used or need any more, are gone in the trash. One of my toys is just a regular hand held massager with an attachment. The other is a real insertable toy. This morning I ordered a new toy with attachments. It is small and has a brush like attachment and the other looks like a rose with a tiny tongue. I'll get it in about 2 weeks. Rechargable and...

This may be a good time to speak with your doctor or a therapist to get some help with the anticipation anxiety. You might also want to read lots of posts and replies here to try tools that others who have, and understand, anxiety have found helpful. So sorry that the time is nearing for your little best buddy to cross the Rainbow Bridge. It brings tears to my eyes. Healing hugs.
I believe the thing to do is after you lay your friend to rest, have a fresh bouquet of flowers in your house. When the flowers dry up and need to be taken out, find another cat who needs a home. You not only will have been respectful to your old cat but you will save a life of another. Those rescued animals are always so grateful and the love is unconditional. Believe me, you will not regret it. But give all the love to your friend while you can. Love is what counts, not time.
It sucks, and it is undoubtedly painful, but always try to remember that you made his life the happy, loving life that makes letting go so hard.
Also, I am a HSP myself. I found that out several years ago now from a workbook about it, of all places. It's part of the reason I don't expect a lot of people to understand me - last I read, only about 20% of people share this trait. It's difficult to understand and it's difficult to explain it to someone who may not ever be able to relate to it. I've always been sensitive to my environment, to noise, to my intuition and to the feelings of other people. It's worth it to find a way to turn it into your strength rather than allowing people to exploit it as a weakness. You have a beautiful connection to a rich inner world that few others in this life get to experience, and a connection to people and emotions that can do a lot of good in the world.
I'm sorry that anxiety and depression end up being byproducts of it for a lot of us.
You can ground yourself and enjoy the time you still have with your cat now. I know it's hard but try not to waste another of the precious moments you still have now worrying about the eventuality.
Hugs to you dear animal friend
