Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. I'm up late as you can see, mainly because in the last several weeks I've been in a weird mood or place in my life. I'm not really sure what is up, but I just know I'm not quite what most people would say "Okay". I say this because I've been a lot more irritated with people, I can't quite seem to have the same patience with people and myself as I would before, and I'm just lately feeling a lot of stress and anger, but I'm unsure where this is all coming from. I just recently graduated from University and I can't help this feeling of "I have something I need to do" but I really don't. I guess you can say I am restless? Like I feel like I constantly have to do something but I don't? I just can't get rid of this stress that I feel or anxiousness, and I'm unsure where it is all coming from.
In another unrelated note, I've done some reflecting on my own about where I think my anxiety started, and I can't help but think it might have had something to do with my mother. You see, as I think about my childhood and my teenage years, I remember being the "good child" or rather the one that never had "problems/feelings that needed to be talked about" which wasn't actually the case. I was more so what I like to think as my parents' therapist in a way because they were having problems with my brother. Looking at it now, I think it may be one of the reasons as to why I have such a hard time talking/communicating with people about how I am feeling or what bothers me. I think its the reason because I always have in the back of my head the thought of "I don't want to burden this person with what bothers me/what or why I am feeling a certain way" because as a child I never really did it until I literally felt like I was drowning in it, but even when I did it was either like "I understand what you are saying but I am going to try to make it about me" kind of response or a "but you have no reason to feel that way" response. (some not my mother's responses but sometimes from people I would try to open up with. When I tried talking to my mom about it recently a lot of her responses tend to be "I guess I made mistakes, but that's in the past" and it isn't quite what I want to hear. It's like I'm wanting to hear an apology from her, for the sake of my teenage/child self, but at the same time I know it's not quite going to change anything. I'm not angry with her about it, but I do realize that it has a lot to do with the way I am now as an adult, and I'm not quite sure how to "get over/begin to work through it." If anyone has any advice or any words of wisdom.. it would be much appreciated.
An update on the therapist search: Well, I've tried looking, but my insurance doesn't quite give me enough options/or what I am looking for. I was looking for someone who was kind of like me? (Same race/ethnicity/gender, because I would like to have someone who may understand the experiences I have gone through) but again my insurance doesn't quite give me that option, but I am continuing to look. I'm also a little nervous about reaching out because, for me, I'd like to find some reviews on them first or have an idea of what kind of therapist they would be, but if in the end that isn't an option I guess I will have to go in blind. If anyone has any experience with first time going to a therapist/meeting a therapist for the first time I would also greatly appreciate it.
That is my update for now guys, take care.

1) You have arrived at a major life transition with you recent graduation from the University. According to the Grand Myths, you are **supposed to be** a grand guru or some such, with all the answers and your life neatly laid out before you. At 66, I'm still waiting for that Grand Myth to manifest. Is it progress that I'm no longer holding my breath while I wait?
2) This is the one you didn't mention. Closing the social distances of Coronaville. Whether voluntary, psychotic or mandated by marshal law, breaking isolation is no justy affair. Anxiety spikes to be expected.
Just wondering if those two factors are indicators that you anxiety spikes are completely natural and should be managed rather than Cured. Just wondering. . . It remains yours to sort.
As for the hunt for an effective therapist, in my own recovery road, I have grown convinced that diversity gets me further than specialization. When I refuse to talk to anybody who doesn't look, act and procreate just like me, I limit my perspective ever further than my dysfunctional birth family did. Talking and listening to people who are not me-clones broadens my perspective immeasurably. There is quite allot of trial and error which goes in to finding and implementing effective therapy. You can't test inter-personal chemistry through static words and graphics on a web site. Those first meetings with therapists feel allot like blind dates to me. Ya can't know until you meet the person and even then, ya gotta be willing to kiss allot of frogs to find your proverbial prince.
When memory moments happen, I put down memory. That means it happened in the past, so it can not be changed, however, it can be used to help make better balanced calm and clear 'do thinking' decisions in similar situations.
And, defining what you think you want in therapy is one way to move through the process, and as you can see, often brings something to the surface that you were not aware of in the search. Rather than description of appearance, focus on the word, tone, pitch, and the level of therapy treatment you're willing to work with.
Therapy is office visit and the work is done on your own during your normal everyday living activities.
