Ron's sundowning about had me in the looney bin until they increased the Ativan.

It isn't sundowning, Judy. It's different. He is very slow, shuffles his feet up and down the room, up and down the hallway, almost ghost like. He never says a word, but will stop, stare at something, then move on. He does this all day long, stands in front of the TV, in front of a doorway. He just slowly, quietly shuffles along. The good news is that it must wear him out because he sleeps through the night.

Can't give you any ideas there...thats one thing that he hadn't done yet.
He was not incontinent until he was hospitalized with his hip. So I didn't have to deal with it at home. They just wore diapers on him in hospital.

wow......i feel guilty for getting frustrated with my mother when i went to visit her. i decided to give her a shower.. so overwhelming and humiliating for her..... i got so frustrated i had to walk away.... she takes her shirt off, puts it back on...i lost count of the times.... she didn't want her clothes lost and unfortunately she felt so "controlled".... i gave her big hugs, but feel bad for being frustrated with her..... i say all that to say you are doing a great job.....

This stage will pass and then we wish they would move! When my husband first went into the nursing home he walked the halls coninuously. 2 months later I can barely drag him onto his feet. He just wants to sit and won't even walk down the hall to his room.
Yesterday I finally enticed him grapes and strawberries which he loves. I want him to walk because he is gaining so much weight.
We just can't win with this disease.

Deb; I have said it before , but your posts are a reflection of us exactly!!! i can really empathize with you, Rob just walks ,stops , stares, stands still and stares at nothing half the time. He will stand right in front of the TV as if they are live. He is so slow and quiet that he creeps up behind me constantly and scares me half the time.

All I do is tell him sit down and relax but it falls on deaf ears as soon as he sits down he gets back up.

he is sleeping at night because that is when I give him his seroquel before bed so that I(we) can get a little sleep.

I love him but am going nuts!!!

Sherri I have switched hubby's Seroquel and Aricept to bedtime as well and he has been sleeping like a baby and his mind is much clearer during the day.

Deb my hubby used to come up behind me in his wheelchair and I almost ended up in his lap a few times when I was cooking in the kitchen. Alone time was almost non existent when he was doing that and for sure I almost went nuts as well. That hasn't happened in a while and I hope it is gone for good

it's like each next stage is worse than the one before it, although where we are in it we can't imagine worse....

yup, Sher, it is just like that! I tell him to sit, and even guide him into a chair and 2 minutes he is up again, shuffling around! AAARRRGGHHH!
