I went to the nursing home at noon today to give my husband his lunch. He looked angry and when I tried to put his glasses on he flung them away. The nurse tried to give him his noon meds( they are supposed to ease his agitation) and he spilled water all over her but refused the meds.
I then invited him to the dining room and he screamed no and pounded the chair. The nurse said to leave him be and they would try later.
I decided to leave as I was bursting into tears and didn't want anyone to see me. Aooarently had had been good in the morning and even co-operated with a shower.
I don't know what to do now but decided I have to stay away today. I feel so guilty for having put him through this and so utterly helpfless.
I wish I could turn back the clock and have kept him at home bu t kknow in my head that sooner or later one of us would have got hurt and he would have been placed on an emergency basis. This is not my husband- he was the gentlest man prior to this illness..
It is just so very hard.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. The personality change is difficult to deal with. Hope your next visit is more pleasant .

The past few days have been the worst yet. My husband has become so aggressive when it's time for any sort of personal care, be it having the catheter bag emptied, washing, dressing etc. He is shouting, kicking, hitting even me and yesterday he even said he would kill me. It's been very hard to take.
Last night it was discovered he has another UTI so that will explain some of the behaviour. He is back on antibiotics having only come off them about a week ago. He is scaring other residents with his outbursts and I'm terrified he will really hurt someone.
They have increased the meds that are supposed to calm him down but we know as long as he has this UTI he will not settle.
This is incredibly hard and I now find I have to push myself to visit and that makes me feel even more guilty.
I just want a few good days but it seems it's too much to ask with this disease.

This is so sad and I hope they get it under control sooner than later. When Mom was in her violent stage (short of tying her down) they had increase her tranquilizers a lot, she was out of it for a while. Although I did not like seeing her like that, I also understood that it was necessary to keep herself and others from harm. Thinking of you and I understand your sadness and reluctance... hugs.

You have my sympathy in this situation with your husband. Know that you are not at fault in any way,it is the disease. I am new to this group and hope that I can get some support with my husband,who has early stage Alzheimers and some idea what to expect.

You need to give yourself the credit for being an incredible person who can face adversity & still show love. I have had one of those days with hubby where the anger ripes you to shreds. You are not in this alone. We are all here for you!

I'm sorry you are starting out on this journey which is a difficult one.
You will find incredible suppor here though. I certainly have and I'm a relative newbie to the group but not to Alzheimer's.

My husband was diagnosed two years ago and takes Aricept and Namenda and seems to be doing ok. There have been changes in his behavior and his memory is going. I see the person that he was slowly slipping away. It breaks my heart to watch him slowly changing. We have been married for 48 years and I thank God for our faith,it is what is sustaining me through this.
