As I wrote earlier, my husband was admitted to a nursing home just over 2 weeks ago.
I am visiting every day, sometimes 2 and 3 times a day and am beginning to wonder if that's too much. He is becoming very angry and difficult when he has to be changed after a bowel movement and even 2 of us have a hard time getting it done. He ends up screaming and trying to run away.
I don't know if he is just coming to the realization that he is not coming home and seeing me so often yet not taking him is re-enforcing that. I just wish I could know what he is thinking.
Does he need to be on meds to calm him down? I don't want him to become so doped that he can't participate in the programs he still enjoys.

I normally go see my mom 2 times a day and when I can not visit her they do not do their jobs, because they know I will do it for them. You have to make sure that they care for him. I leave notes all the time on her wheal chair to let them know to change her and that I will not be there to do it.
This nursing home changes aids all the time. Our job is to supervise their work. It seems that the head nurse should do that, but they do not supervise them. Be careful not to make them mad, because they could take it out on them when you are not there.

I do agree that we have to be very vigilant and that the charge nurse does not supervise as she should.
I often diffuse things when other patients get into tussles with each other or give care to other patients as I see the need. There is simply not enough staff to do everything. It's very sad that our loved ones have to end their days like this when they have worked hard all their lives.
