My Mom recently was Hospitalized for pneumonia .
She was in Hospital for about 10 days , as there were also complications with her blood sugar levels .
The Nurses at the SNH are doing breathing treatments for my Mom,and also Occupational Therapy for swallowing issues .
I guess it's just another step in the slow decline we see with our loved ones .

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Be sure you Mom has her head elevated to allow her throat to help the air get into her.

Eventually all dementia patients become an aspiration risk; even to the point of their own saliva. I would definitely talk to the caregivers to ensure that they're giving her softer foods or liquid foods if that helps. She should also be in a full sitting position when eating or drinking but even with this some patients are just more prone to choking or food getting into the lungs.
It is very sad to watch our loved ones go through this.
