Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I wouldn't make it so black & white and say I'm an alcoholic because of what I've been through.. I drank because of what happened to me, but I became an alcoholic thereafter... It's hard to explain.. I don't blame others for my problem with alcohol, I don't see it as being anyone's fault...it was my coping mechanism, and it soon became an addiction tgat I still fight with. I became addicted to self mutilation as well. I have a problem with addiction, I didn't know this when I was younger, and I'm not sure it would have made a difference had I known....but biologically, I do have a problem with addiction, and I can aknowledge that and know it is not my fault entirely that I struggle kicking the alcohol and the self mutilation, among other things..
And most days I don't think about it. I just enjoy life, food, etc
My sister is a mess. She's in and out of recovery and we haven't spoken in 3 years as she used in my daughters room. I told her I love her, but can't accept that in my home. She's never come back, returned calls, or called me. Sigh.
I know the things that happened to me fueled my ED,and my ED fueled my drinking. But I think I would have found my slow slide into alcoholism no matter what...it's just stitched into my wiring.
The wonderful miracle for me are AAs 12 steps. They've changed my life. I'm so grateful....
Maybe AA will be the simple solution that you need. You won't know until you try it, but of course, that is up to you. You say you are going to ask your counsellor - do that if you feel it necessary.
