Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
From age 12-22, I drank mainly because it was fun.
From age 22-32, I drank mainly to escape things I couldn't cope with.
From age 32-34, I drank because I couldn't stop.
When I realized I couldn't stop, I said things like...
"I can't cope with ___."
"___ drove me to drink."
"___ hurt me."
"___ happened."
"I did ___."
"I am afraid to fail at ___."
"I don't deserve ___."
Denial.
Then they told me there was a solution, but I said...
"I can't get sober."
"I don't believe in a higher power."
"I am unique."
"I won't get it."
"I don't like to share."
"They don't understand."
"I don't understand."
"They forget what it's like."
"My problems are worse."
"I can't do this."
Denial.
Through the program of AA, I have been able to address many of these issues. Today, I can honestly say that I don't feel a good REASON to drink other than the addiction/obsession that still plagues me. My drinking had less to do with all that crap and more to do with denial. I drink because I am an alcoholic. I will FIND a REASON when I need one.
The obsession hits me before I am even aware that I want to drink. My insanity tries to construct a reason. ...Cunning.
Without a good REASON to drink, I STILL want to drink. ...Baffling.
I become consumed with negative energy. If I am overwhelmed enough, I give myself permission to drink. ...Powerful.
Part of what is keeping me sober today is that I now know there is NO GOOD REASON to take another drink. If I take another drink, all I am left with are copouts. Excuses. If I take another drink it will be by insanity or choice.
"I drink because..." is denial.
There is a solution if you want it.

Sorry..but it is honest and true for me.
Inner pain is why I drink.
Simple...yet so sad...for me...but not for you all...
