What's up with DS?

I just got a message for DS like I'm sure many if you did stating there will be no more Chat. I understand what Goggle has done but for DS not to look for alternative is a damn shame. Many people come here looking for a solution to there problem and chatting with these individuals letting them know on one on one conversations sharing are E,S.&H is huge. Since DS was bought out the new owners have done nothing but make this site worse like terrible servers issues, not showing correctly who is online among other things. Many people have left or don't come here often like myself after joining back in 07. They mentioned they don't have the resources to find another product, I don't know about you but I see more payed ads now then ever before. If anyone know of or use another site that they like please post it here to let me and others know.

Hi Everyone,

We have some important news regarding chat on DailyStrength. Our chat
feature is provided by Google's Meebo Bar, and Google has decided to
retire the Meebo bar, effective 06/06/2013. On or around May 28th We
will be removing the Meebo bar from DailyStrength.

We have decided that at this point in time we are not going to locate an
alternative chat product. Unfortunately, we simply do not have the
resources to implant such a product.

While members will no longer be able to chat one-on-one with each other
in real time by using the "chat" feature, everyone WILL still be able to
send each other private messages, give hugs, post discussions and utilize
all of the other features on DS.

We hope everyone is having a wonderful spring!

Their chat comes up and says it doesn't support IE, but I used it with IE9 - no problem...

Personally I like the chat feature and I am sorry to see it go. But most of the value I have gotten from DS isn't from using chat, it is participating in the discussion threads --reading what others have to say, asking for advice, and sometimes just sharing a thought.

I guess the chat is now bittersweet for me anyways... I miss chatting with Chris and DS can't fix that with a Meebo replacement.

I was going to mention the online thing - it always showed that *everyone* was online, which seemed strange.

I have usually bounced between here and Sober Recovery, which has a ton of different forums (secular 12-step, 12-step AA, non-12 step, drug, alcoholism, stories of recovery, etc.) and also a very large chat room (I don't do chat rooms, but they seem to be popular). You might give that a try too if the chat is something that you are interested.

I didn't utilize chat much here at DS, but in the times I have its been beneficial.

I have noticed fewer of the "regulars" that used to be here when I first got here a year or so ago - gr8ful2b's absence is noticeable amongst others. I can't blame it on the new owners here...people move on, etc.

Yah I hear you Exj I've always found D/s to be just like a ol shoe Comfortable... as Homey da Clown would say Now Wittle children lol I find In the room far too impersonal and self centered but thats my personality. I am pretty new here, but have used the chat more than anything else. I think they are making a mistake by taking our chat away from us. Chatting feels alot more personal than just messages. Some "friends" have related that they do not have the time for anything else. Chat is quick and personal!

They aren't taking chat away... google is doing that. They have decided not to replace it right now.

When I first joined ds, we had an audio/vidio chat which was nice being able to connect the words with a face but that was replaced by meebo which disappointed me being forced to type each and every word instead of speaking it in a normal way. Next there will be nothing.

Usually things improve over time and keep getting better but DS seems to be going backwards instead of forward for some reason.

I am dissappointed with the apathy of those in charge.

I agree with Bobinmaine-the apathy of DS people....do they not understand how important chat is to so many here? Surely there must be other one to one chat facilities. I am not so keen on messages as far as communicating goes. its too slow for modern requirements. Chat rooms are chaos in my limited experience-I want to keep in touch with DS friends-and everyone seems to be heading in diff directions-its like the end of high school!

I don't like the chat thing anyway, sometimes I would be on my computer and I get a random message from someone without a name just a number and I hated that. If we take advantage of a free resource as DS is, we can't complain about how they choose to spend their money (or not.)

Serenity, respect you opinion but just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it is and was helpful to many. Your statement sounds like because you don't use it others should feel the same. That's what we call being self-centered ..Just a thought.

Bob, that was a great feature back then and the owners that put this site together was strapped for cash from my understanding so I would think it wouldn't take all that much to put that back together.
Loved the quotes it had at the bottom of the chat.

the chat made me wary of posting with some persons looking for the sex talk and I believe there is a problem with also here with chat for young people from DS Members Community See here. Very happy to see it go.

I will miss DS one on one chatting was fun and satisfying from being alone online to being able to talk to someone....might I suggest that some of you who like each other exchange telephone numbers in PM? that could include texting...I did that with someone I have liked a long time and as she asked for some way to contact others I offered my number and said I text....so now we are texting but not talking...she is shy on telephone not knowing what to say...but a text or two daily is not bad for her....I know some might not want that but others might....

and I also use intherooms.com where they have a public chat room for all....but it sometimes gets brutal in there....and sometimes runs way too fast to keep up with too....mostly I loved my one on one when someone asked me to chat or I asked them....it was enjoyed alot here and will be missed....

Chat features can be abused on unmoderated sites like this one so I would not use it anyhow.
