Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Today is day 3 for me. I feel like total crap. I have a headache and I'm extremely grouchy. I also feel much more jittery today.
I am going to my first AA meeting tonight at 5. I was scared to go to town at all on day 1, and there wasn't any meetings near me yesterday.
I'm not sure if AA is the answer but I figure it cannot hurt to try.
As much as I feel like I want to punch people in the face today, I also feel like I really need to be around someone who understands.
I did tell my husband I quit drinking, but I haven't talked to him about the meeting. l'm afraid it will scare him. He was surprised when I told him I was quitting. (He works a lot and I (at least I think) have been pretty good about hiding my consumption level from him. He said "wow, I mean I know you like your beer and all, but I didn't realize it was that bad."
I try never to drink before 5, but occasionally I do, with the little quip of its 5 o'clock somewhere.
I drink usually 6 beers a night, but at least twice a week its more like 8. Every. Single. Day.
I didn't think it was that much, tried to rationalize it, etc. But the fact was that sometimes first thing in the morning I started counting down to 5 o'clock. I went to strange lengths to make sure I had enough beer in the house every day. If there were only 5, I ran after more ahead of time. I was either obsessed thinking about drinking, enjoying drinking, or feeling like crap because I had.
I almost had myself talked into the tapering thing last night. But deep down I know, there is no such thing for me. I can't taper. If I had one or two, I would have 6. Or more.
I am so very very done. I just don't know what to do from here. I don't want to be a "dry drunk". But I don't know what I need to do to stop that. I don't want to ever forget how I have felt over these many years of drinking, how miserable, ashamed, and lonely I have felt. (I'm a housewife for christ's sake, a mother of 6 children!) I want to do whatever is necessary to ensure sobriety.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Welcome and I'm glad you are here
I too joined this group b/c I had become reliant on alcohol. See there are two basic things that I found out. 1 I have a compulsion to drink more once and 2 ) I obsess about when my next drink would be.
I hid it, and I was basically full of anger, pity, and self loathing.
Then I started to work my program in AA. I just went to meetings on the days I used to drink... ( only on days ending with Y...). I just listened and other ppl were there to teach me ways to cope with life. See I had 0 coping skills. I was chained to the booze.
That was 3 years ago. Today I am so happy and glad I'm not a slave to alcohol anymore. I have got my life back. You can too. Cmon!

I remember my first meeting, it took all of my emotional strength to get me from my car, across the parking lot and through that door. The sign read, "AA meeting inside" and I felt it was now or never so in I went with knots in my stomach.
There was a guy at the door who greeted me with a handshake and a big smile on his face. I was welcomed with open arms. This was the beginning of a new life for me, a better life and one in which I did not have to worry anymore.
The 12 steps of AA saved my life and I have never been happier!
Good luck tonight and let us know how it goes for you. The path you take on your road to recovery may help someone else!
God Bless!

Or especially a combo of two or more.
It helped me to drink a coke or chocolate shake when the cravings hit.
You will start to feel physically better soon as your body completely adjusts to your cutting off the supply of alcohol. It won't be much longer.
My suggestion to you is stay in this discussion group and participate at least daily. There is a whole lot of support here. Also suggest reading some books about the addiction to alcohol and there is also a whole lot to read on the internet. You need to learn about your addiction and it will make more sense to you why you will be happier once you eliminate alcohol from your life forever. Go ahead and try AA, but don't get discouraged if it is not a good fit for you. There are many of us who are staying sober without attending AA meetings on a regular basis and have figured out a "program" that works for us.

You should start feeling physically better over the next few days as your body adjusts. Drinking lots of water and eating good foods will help.
I also drank every single day. I couldn't imagine life without it, but now I can't imagine ever picking up a drink again. I am not in AA, but as you can see others find it helpful. Another program you might want to check out online is Women For Sobriety: http://www.womenforsobriety.org/beta2/ They are a supportive group with a program designed specifically for women.
Congrats on three days!
If you have quit for a couple days already then keep it going. Your not going to benefit from tapering at this point. I will say a prayer for you and send positive vibes and wishes your way. Peace out. we are all proud of your efforts.
