Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I treat my alcoholism with Alcoholics Anonymous. In their literature they have a chapter called We Agnostics. This chapter comes after other chapters that describe their alcoholic problem and how they define alcoholism. I think it is important to say how AA, real AA, doesn't desire to be the only way to treat alcoholism, even though most alcoholics in AA, believe if it was the only way, that would be harmless.
I listened to a speaker tape yesterday by a guy named Sandy B, and he was talking about if you are an alcoholic, and you cannot stop drinking, you have lost control over if you drink or how much you drink, only a spiritual experience will save the day. He suggests we should seek God. We should seek God even if we are angry at him, or angry at the concept, or afraid of God, or the idea of God, we should just seek, and ask for it to be a part of whatever guides us going forward. I have done this, and I do this, and I can confirm that it is very helpful. I often think I don't need a God, and I often think the idea of God is just too frightening, to really depend on. I've done a lot of wrong, and I know that what I know of what God is, by the teachings of others, might be a reality for great punishment, so I often deny God, or deny the idea of there is a God who has power. That always leaves me lost and confused, with no clarity, and always leaves my mind, ignorantly, without something secure guiding it, wanting to get drunk, or high, or to have more money, or to have more exhilirating sex, or to want to bully others, etc.
I don't want to write too much, I have in the past and it loses people. I do want to say that this idea that AA brings where lack of power, is my dilemma, and help, from others and God, is the solution to that dilemma, even though extremely difficult to accept and surrender to, has been a fact in my life. Each morning, on the good mornings at least, I wake up, get down on my knees, and say to God, "I give my life to you." Sometimes the day ends up better, sometimes the day ends up worse, but all of that is my opinion, in the long run, I have found that if I do that, as much as possible, I have a chance at a wonderful life with much clarity and power.
This coming to grips with God, and how often I deny the real potential of his love and care, powerfully for others, including myself, is something I must experience if I am to benefit from the help that AA and other means to get sober and recovered offer. Recently I have been really running my own show, and the insecurity it had left me with was one of which I have rarely experienced in sobriety, I used to experience it daily when I wasn't able to treat my alcoholism due to lack of grace and commitment to God. I am encouraged that I went through a significant period of me thinking me was the solution to all things given to me in life, good or bad. Now I know more so that God is always a greater solution or more practical solution.
If you don't know if there is a God, I suggest doing something you know gives others a testimony to there being a God. I go to meetings and seeing the new people change, and open their minds to the idea that God is there, God is there to help, and God does in fact help even when we don't want it to, or know we need it.

there has been considerable popular press on the social impact of misogyny (hatred of women). misandry (hatred of men) seems socially blessed. poor girl. how right you are to hate the evils of men. never mind that harboring hatred burns holes in your soul. those evil creatures are worthy of all the hate we can muster.i have 5 brothers, 5 sisters and 3 sons and 2 daughters. i hold that misandry is...

When I attended AA for the first time, I was introduced to GOD as "Good Orderly Direction". Simple. If your HP is a biblical God, great. If your HP is nature. Great. If your HP is community. Great. Anyone who can reach outside of their own selves, into a greater force. Great job. The spiritual foundation has certainly helped me over the last 3 years.
