Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

UGH!
I feel like I am getting bombarded with triggers today.
I will not get in the car, drive to the liquor store, or purchase booze to pour down my throat. I know that. I truly believe I won't live through another relapse and that scares me. I have invested a lot in my sobriety and have experienced immeasurable gains. I am grateful for what I have and I will not throw it all away.
I DON'T however trust myself around alcohol, ESPECIALLY, surrounded by people unaware of my history. It would be too easy for someone to hand me a drink... I am just afraid I would not have the capacity in that moment to choose to NOT drink.
So, I am skipping the company holiday party tonight, rejecting invites to dinner, dodging certain friends who think now that I am single I should be back in the party scene, etc. I have not been this nervous in a long time. It just seems SO easy for everything to come crashing down if I am not careful.
I did not expect to feel so nutty around the holidays Christmas.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I hate this.
Im feeling pretty insecure lately too - that's just part of our makeup and you can get through this. If you need to lash out - it's better to do that than to drink. Lash out at me - I can take it :)
Thanks :p
Remember to use telephone therapy and your sponsor if you have one.
We can do many things this time of year and make our own sober fun. The first CHRISTmas season I was sober I, too, stayed away from alcohol, but it was the best CHRISTmas I've ever had. I spent a lot of time with my church family who do not drink and it helped me experience this time of year in a whole new light and focus on the real reason for the season. I went caroling in nursing homes and helped feed the homeless at shelters and churches and ministered to a family whose husband/father was dying. I took the focus off myself and onto others and sharing in the love of the spirit of CHRISTmas. I haven't been the same since those days, it touched my heart beyond measure, and I am so thankful for that.
There is a much better life away from the evils of alcohol. You just have to go find it! I'm forever grateful that I have.
It's been a blessing to watch you grow. Keep keeping on :)
Does your sponsor say about why they think your obsession has not been removed? Have you had a spiritual awakening as the result of the 12 step program?
Replace faith with fear and get in touch with your HP.

What is my HP up to? Maybe a lesson for me too somewhere haha
M8, you're hilarious. Blondie. :P xx
Sharing and reaching out are great antidotes. Thanks.
Last week I had 3 boozey events. By last weekend I felt like I'd been dodging bullets nonstop.
It's not the easiest!
Hang in there. Skip anything that puts you at risk. I should have skipped the last of three booze events too. I didn't drink, but felt pressured. Inside job, doesn't make it easier!
Relax, take it easier on yourself, and visualize how great you'll feel Jan 2nd Sans hangover!
I like Deni's plan- focus on doing things for others, wherever possible! And get outside of yourself.
You will make it through this without drinking, even though it might be rough at times. When it is rough, don't ever think to yourself that you are moving backwards or that it should be easier. Every time you get through a situation that triggers you, whether you do it by not attending an event, calling a friend, or venting on DS, you are that much stronger and better prepared for the next one.
You are doing GREAT. Stay sober -- getting a bit nutty or venting is fine. Hell, I don't know about you, but I got nutty at the holidays when I WAS drinking, so why would I expect smooth sailing just because I am sober?
