Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Taradactyl
My niece Mia is only 18 mos old. I came out of a 3 day blackout just in time to sit in on some pics when she was born. I love this kid, but it used to make me so sad that I was a drunk. I used to go over to see her before I would drink. It would sometimes pull me out of my funk. Other times I just knew I wouldn't see her for awhile.
There were many times I didn't want to be there. She always seemed to love me but I really wasn't "present" and often couldn't fake a laugh or smile.
Almost 4 mos sober and finally IN recovery, it's just different. I am happy. I am functional. My smiles and laughs are genuine.
Niece Mia screams with absolute glee when she sees me. Her whole face lights up and she bangs on the window as I approach the door. She's a climber, but I have to watch her. She likes an audience. And she loves pretending to be scared when I jump from around a corner. She likes to fake fall and say "uh oh!" Last night she wouldn't be put down. Every time I lowered her to the floor, she curled her knees to her chest so her feet wouldn't touch. When it was time for me to go, I said bye and she wrapped her arms around me, patting me on the back, saying "Awww..." She gave me kiss and said "bye bye".
I am dang near close to heaven these days. I am so glad I am sober and able to participate in this life. This is living. It is JUST life, normalcy, and it is good. Beats where I was a year ago at 4 mos sober.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Mia is lucky to have you for her Auntie.

This is life.Sober life. Thank you for sharing your happy moments, they are so precious.
A sober life is a good life if we keep growing and putting the work in.
As Gailly said, life has ups and downs, with HP and program and the 'extras' they are all doable; may not like life all the time yet at least today I get a shot at living it :)
That's a good way to explain it Tara. Mia's going to love having Auntie Dactyl a sober loving presence in her life. :} Such a nice cycle to be a part of.
Its a miracle.
You are a miracle:)
Love the see the change in ya. :=))
