hi Zoe3, I have an alchoholic husband and completely understand about it driving you insane, and breaking your heart. Its like watching a part of yourself just selfdestruct and there is nothing you can do to stop it. If you need to talk just let me know, I know it helps me to just be able to vent instead of keeping it all bottled up.

I have to same problem. My boyfriend is going to his brother's(extreme alcoholic) house and spending the night tonight. He says that he misses his brother but the only time they get along is when they are both drunk. He quit for a while and is starting up again. My heart is broken also. I am going to alanon tonight when he leaves for the first time. Maybe you should try it too. Stay strong and don't believe the abusive things he says to you. That is what I am trying to acomplish. I have also come to terms with the fact that the alcoholic side of him will say anything to justify it. Remember that next time he is putting you down or making you think that you are imagining things. I would love to be your friend.

Hi! Yes. I am new here. I decided to find a support group for this issue. I'm sad and heartbroken as well. I've been married for almost 4 years. When my husband drinks he turns into a totally different person. Someone I don't like or love at all. I've been dealing with this for 3 yrs now and am at the end of my rope with him. He actually has an addiction to marijuana as well. He takes our hard earned money and spends on everyday to buy booze and smoke. His angry outbursts and violent actions and disrespectful words have taken a toll on me. I have decided to start taking steps to leave or should I say him leave... I choose myself. I choose my happiness. I choose joy and peace. I hope you do the same!! Life is too short to burden ourselves with something that's out of our control... especially when your/our husband refuse to acknowledge and get help.

You are very welcome to the DS forum. The post you have replied to is ten years old and many of the people who were around at that time are no longer active on the forum. Nevertheless, you have made some good points so I hope that people who are here now will share their experience.

There is another DS group called “Wives of Alcoholics” and maybe if you post there as well that you may get more replies. The bottom line is that nobody should have to put up with the stuff that you have described so start putting yourself first. Check to see if there is free legal aid available in your area so that you are sure about keeping a roof over your head. Al-Anon is also a great option, whether you decide to stay with your husband or not.

I feel the same way. My husband is drunk as I type this, and a away from our home on a work function. I struggle daily with how to cope, and keep my head above water. I feel like his addiction is becoming my problem, and I try to put on a happy face for my kids. I feel lost.
