Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

jpf - a quote from nemo's first link about this author, his book and his in-house program.
"When I saw [Prentiss] doing his parade of press interviews, he kept quoting the [cure] number. I owe it to the alcoholic or addict who is still suffering to let them know that he does not have the cure.
****************
I have seen this man on TV and when I do see him - I have two thoughts:
1. He has "con-man" written all over him; and
2. He really needs a new toupee.
Other than that he seems fine.
If I were you I would not get near him or his book - because - as someone said previously - it sounds like an attempt to sell his in-house program.
One woman dropped a quarter of a million dollars in a few months at his recovery place - and she is now on heavy drugs today, There are a lot of negative comments about this man at the link provided by nemo.
I have the recovery bible and I like it.
I have been in and out of AA for 20 years and could only achieve 4 years of continues (dryness), never what I would call sobriety. One comment was that they disagree with an addiction to alcohol and drugs as being different. Bah! I have both and those that think that they would not go to drugs if alcohol is not available are deluding themselves (Dr. Ken Roy River Oak's rehab in Louisiana). Oh by the way he is 30+ years SOBER!
I have been in rehab twice already and came to realize that drugs or alcohol are the same to me with one exception. I can get alcohol anywhere here in Louisiana but I need a script or a trip to the dope man for drugs.
I for one can be addicted to anything! Drugs, alcohol, sex, internet, etc.
Sorry for my ranting but I am frustrated and just trying to find what will work for me. If that means being locked up in the Gulag and shaving my head and worshiping a gopher then that is what it is.

That book isn't about any kind of sobriety and we both know it.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, just trying to point out that you appear to be BSing yourself. I' know because I've been there and done that
I am reading the book "Addiction and Change" -How Addictions Develop and Addicted People Recover. It is very helpful with lots of good information. I would recommend it to anyone suffering with any kind of addiction.
There is no "Cure", there is stopping drinking, the nut house, the jail house or the boneyard. Depending how far down your bottom is in your strive to drink like "normal" ppeople who "have a handle on it".
I have not read the book, but my impression, based on reviews that I read, is that it is primarily a promotion piece for the rehab center.
While it's my belief that fixing the underlying causes does not cure alcoholism. This book would appear to still promote sobriety. I'm an idiot and if this works for you Godspeed.
Thanks for setting me straight Jersey girl
