Sober and Depression

Been Sober now for 7 days. I seem to be getting quite depressed the last couple of days. Is this part of the drying out process? Are mood swings also part of it? Physically I don't feel too bad. Bit light headed at times, but nothing more now. Still determined not to drink though.

Volunteering helped me as well as exercise. A walk or a bike ride can work wonders for my mood and it may help you. Congrats on 7 days.

Thanks a lot. 9 Days now and I've just started doing the C25K challenge to keep me busy in the week. I find going out for a walk or a cycle ride is good therapy too for when you're bored out of your mind and certain thoughts might start creeping in.

I'm looking in to volunteering. Signed up to a site to find voluntary work in my local area. Hopefully I can find something that's a couple of evenings a week for a few hours at a time :)

LOL! I had to look up what C25K was ! "Couch to 5K". Well, good for you. That is a great goal and something for you to focus on that will clearly shake up your routine. Sounds like something that will lead to your success.

I'm more into cycling, and back in my younger days I decided I wanted to ride in some centuries (100 mile rides). I dove in with abandon. I would get up at 3am, have breakfast, go for a 40-50 mile ride, have breakfast again and be at work by 8am. I did get there.

I did both the Angeles Crest century that started at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA and proceeded up into the San Gabriel mountains for 10,000 of climbing. It was a tough one. I also did the "Amtrak Centrury" which started at what used to be Anaheim Stadium and went down the coast to San Diego. You then caught Amtrak in downtown San Diego for a ride back to Anaheim. It was a blast.

Point being, I made a goal and stuck with it and 20+ years later I still look back with pride and satisfaction, plus I get to bore all you with the story! ;-)

On another note, is there a CraigsList page for your area? They have a volunteer section.

I just finished 7 days dry as well. This time (there have been several), I am not depressed. But I have been in the past. Yes - I think it's normal. You need to power through it. Read something uplifting. Watch a funny movie. It will get better. Promise.

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
