Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Is it bad that I want to go to bed super early every evening to avoid the cravings and desire to drink? I have been going to bed by 8:00, and waking up by 5:00 am, but feeling great. Evening was always my time to sit down, watch TV or read and have some wine, usually a bottle or two sometimes. When I wake up, I feel great, and those desires are gone, until the next evening. I just feel guilty going to bed so early because my husband likes to hang out late and watch TV and tries to encourage me to stay up.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I dont believe that there is any rule about the time that people should go to sleep so if that is what works for you then its nobody elses business.
Just be careful not to get into a habit that you may find difficult to break later should you decide to revert to more conventional sleeping times. I see from another post that you are planning to go to a meeting today and that could be a good way to pass a couple of hours. When I stopped drinking I went to meetings six nights per week for about three months and between travelling and the actual meeting it took about three to four hours each day.
Personally I find it better to confront the problem rather than to withdraw from normal activities but I can understand how changing your evening routine can be helpful in the early days. If the meeting that you are going to is an AA meeting I would encourage you to become involved and committed to it and to keep an open mind. I know that I disagreed with much of what I heard at early AA meetings and if I had left at that time, I would be either drunk or dead today. Attainment of long term sobriety does not have to be a hard battle, providing that you accept the reality that you cannot drink and are prepared to do whatever it takes to change your thinking.
Wishing you all the best.
When I first got sober I was exhausted by 7 PM and in bed by 830 PM. I worried I'd never have energy again.
However, I found a 630 AM homegroup that I went to 5 days a week (then another meeting on the weekend both Sat & Sunday) for my first three years of sobriety. I really got into an early morning 'groove." Now I have more energy and feel great all day but I do like to get into bed by around 830 and read till 945 or so. Lights out and up again at 530 AM either to go to my meeting (I now go twice a week) or to go for a run or a ride.
Life is so good sober.
