Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I too would not want a 'medicated recovery' because it would not feel like real recovery to em. Like others have said - I have grown in so many ways and continue that growth each day.
I learned that resentments truly, nearly killed me yet I didn't think that I had any; I have learned to trust my HP and now do not experience that horrible gut-wrenmching fear that was a constant companion when I was drinking; I have learned how to deal with people and situations that once would have baffled me; I have had the gift of watching hundreds of people recovering from an illness that was killing them; I have spent many wonderful hours (and a few less than wonderful! lol) with women as we went through the Steps together; I became a member of a profession - something I never thought I would do; I have become a good parent and a good and wiser grandparent - I could go on and on here but you get the drift.
Couldn't I have done this when using the Sinclair method? Well, I doubt that because it would not have required me to work on myself in the way that i have done since I recovered in AA, I would have still been selfish, self-centred, dishonest, afraid, angry etc etc. I needed the spiritual dimension of recovery in order to become a more rounded person (and boy am I round !)
I recovered through AA and it worked for me - I know that it will work for anyone who does the suggested things that we believe are vital to recovery. However there are people on here that used other ways to deal with their alcoholism/drinking problem and are sober. Take your pick.
I ask her "doesn't it make more sense to just learn how to make healthy eating choices and a healthy plan of living, rather than to rely on a "magic pill". But she swears by her "easier, softer" methods. With little results.
That's what AA did, it taught me a healthy plan of living, something I doubt I could have ever learned from a pill.
