Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Last week I wanted desperately to drink. I was standing outside a grocery store and I remembered there was a liquor store next door. And I struggled not to go in. I mean struggled. And I didn't go in. But this week I did. It's my usual pattern - 4 months sober and drink once or twice and start all over again. Maybe if I had put a message here it would have helped to get feedback and to say how close I came last week. I don't know. This pattern is really getting old. I'm going to look into AA online and phone.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I drove myself to the emergency room, thinking that was the fastest way to get into detox. I was drunk at the time so they gave me iv's to get my blood alcohol down enough so I could be admitted. After 4 days of detox I went into a 3 week IOP where I was treated for the underlying issues that triggered my alcoholism such as depression and ptsd. This was followed by 3 months of relapse prevention group counseling where I learned what my triggers were and how to handle them.
Throughout all the treatment I had, regular attendance at AA meetings were a requirement. I got a sponsor who guided me through the steps and the cravings gradually diminished in intensity and frequency over time but having the support of AA and especially of my sponsor was a huge help. I checked in daily with my sponsor and he helped keep me sober when I was going through some difficult times....
That was 11 years ago and today I have a great life and I have never been happier. I wish the same for you.
Here is an older post which describes some of the things that trigger a relapse:
