Why do they ask us to ask God in the morning before we start our day to be "divorced" from self-pity, dishonesty, and self-seeking motives?  Well for one, it then tells us it will guarantee assurance in our decision making.  

I am assured a being able to manage "mental faculties" if they are not hindered by pity for myself, a need to lie, and only seeking my own self-interest.  Basically it is telling me I can allow myself a strong and reliable mind if I am not feeling sorry for myself through being grateful for what I have and have been given, won't tire my mind with anxiety and fear by lying, and won't gain enemies by only thinking of what is good for me or my group.  

Who wants to be always wanting more unable to see what they already have and have been given?  Who wants to be worn out all the time trying to remember the last lie they told or having to trick people into thinking one way or another, scared they will get exposed or seen as a fraud?  Who wants enemies, they could have avoided, if they could have seen them as potential friends from the start?  I like assurance, and when unmanagability is the guiding force in a person's life for decades, it feels great to know, God guarantees an assuring mind that can do good work, towards great experience, if we only ask for his power to remove pity, dishonesty, and selfishness. 

When we do this, we clear the deck if the mind is interested in wrong and harmful motives.  If we have wrong motives, and they will harm, our minds through great mechanics, and will then create confusion and indecision.  The temptation to then run the show ourselves, will be great, and when we run the show, we get proud, think we know everything, bash humility, and eventually find ourselves baffled and stunned at how bad it has gotten. 

It is very important in the morning to ask God to guide everything purpose driven and critical to the success of our helping others and growing in recovery.  This is great for two reasons, it will give you a great experience to see the difference between his way and our way, and then it also creates a close bond of understanding and faith that God is real and God wants to solve ALL OUR PROBLEMS. 

God wants us to see those problems and solutions clearly, and the awesome literature says if we ask to have the day begin with no pity for ourselves, pure honesty with a distaste but knowledge of the destruction of dishonesty, and no interest of our selves above others that harms them, we will now "know" right and wrong and be able to accomodate that request from God.
