Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

All,
I am about to celebrate 4 months on 4/28. I have been extremely busy lately as I sold my home and I have been moving my belongings into storage. I am still out of work but have resources as I made some wise investments in the past. I am about to enter a 10 day rehab for the DUI I got on 12/28/14 (last day I drank). I have not been to a meeting in over a week but am going to my favorite discussion tonight. Anxiety is a bit high as I am letting fear of the unknown overwhelm me. The biggest is because I cannot find a job. I've been out of work for 5 weeks now. This is the longest time period without a job in 30 years (I am 53). It sucks because I have so much to offer potential employers. I've been everything from a Network Engineer to a Account Executive and I've been moderately successful at every position I've held. I really don't know what my point is other than the fear of financial failure. I do not want to drink. It just seems like I'm not as positive as I was the first couple of months being sober. After my stay at the rehab facility I am meeting with a career counselor. I do know that I cannot drink and the 10 days will give me plenty of time to reflect and maybe even figure out what the hell I'm going to do with the rest of my life.
Thanks for letting me vent,

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

When I lost my job, I thought it was the end of the world, but my AA sponser once told me that something good always comes out of bad things that happen and he always pointed those things out to me because I tended to focus on the negative.
I am self employed now, I only work a few hours a day and I have what I need and I have never been happier!
God Bless!
I will pray you get employed in just what you want and can thrive doing...hugs bill
Ditto what bobinmaine has just posted. Deal with the rehab first and as you have said, you then have a career counsellor to talk to. There is a big difference between our wants and our needs. Sometimes we dont get all that we want but our needs are provided for.
Fear of the future and financial insecurity is fear of the unseen. When I look back at fears that cropped up a year or five years ago it always worked out somehow. Faith has been my certainty in uncertainty but I had to open myself to that concept and learn to grow it. It gives me courage I didn't have when I was drinking.
" Already have a better job, just really hurting since Lisa moved. Once the house is sold I can pretty much do what i want soI may end up down south, who knows. "-
What up with you saying been out of a job for 5 weeks when you wrote 4 weeks ago that you "already have a better job"? I'm following you close because I'm in the same situation. So, now I'm confused. By the way, sounds like you are good at investring. Now, that just might be your next career. Do what you're good at.
What I have been doing is going to a meeting every night. If I don't I would just be with my own mind that likes to worry, and I don't like that. Most times I see, or hear about someone else that has it worse than me and I can't help but be grateful.
I also started volunteering at this place for older people. There's so many people out there that are sad, miserable, depressed, or just messed up. I believe that we need to become more other centred, instead of self centered. For some reason when I remember that, I can find more peace than anything else can give me.
I believe that you will get a job sometime. you've stated that your good, and well qualified, but you need to be patient. Sometimes we don't always get what we want, when we want it. Anyway, take care and have a good day. James
I've been out a year....its very scary.
I understand.
Part of the reason I think I want to escape with alcohol...its not worth it...keep doing the right things and right things happen.
