Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
kinda hard to have a "conscious " contact with God while stoned...
it was a personal decision for me though...
That was 16.5 yrs ago.. never looked back since
quickly though, I stopped weed in sobriety cos i wanted to find out who i really was. I been so watsed for so long over the years that I wanted to give sobriety my full attention. Spirituality at the end of a spliff wasn't what I wanted - it failed me in the past.
Take care,
Chili
I once chatted about this subject to a cross-addict and he had a lovely view on this.
He said "we all come to own conclusions about step 1. I know for me where somking weed would lead me - back to the booze."
I like the NA definition of step 1 (or the illness):
"We are powerless over a disease that gets progressively worse when we use any drug. It does not matter what drug was at the center for us when we arrived. Any drug we use will release our disease all over again. We recover from the disease of addiction by applying our Twelve Steps."
They remain an addict of there choice, this time its Pot
Trickey
Pot is legal in California, and you can get it at little clinics everywhere. I have a friend who has a prescription for pot and believes she is sober because she is using it "as prescribed." The thing is, doctors there can only "suggest" weed.
Would you consider Pot a medicinal drug under these circumstances? Personally, I do not. I think it is a convienient excuse to get high with the exception of cancer, glaucoma, and other researched diseases that pot has been proven to help.
What do you think?
I was on anti-depressants but wanted to stop them as soon as I could as I instinctively knew my depression was alcohol-related. My doctor agreed.
Always consult doctors with regards to medication.
Don't self-medicate though! However your interpretation of step 1 is entirely up to you with regards to other drugs.
Weed is only prescribed for illnesses like MS in my experience - rarely so too.
