Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Rock bottom to me is a strange thing, I thought I had hit it many times but as soon as I felt well again, back came the booze.. Rather than events that happened what really changed things for me is what I call a "moment of clarity" that stopped me in my tracks one miserable sick day. However it happens I think the common denominator is a deep heartfelt desire to never drink again.
I got my key to lasting sobriety through the 12 Step program of recovery, it was an absolute necessity and I found a good sponsor to guide me through it. I hope you do too. I knew deep down that I had lost control over drinking, I had to surrender to win.
I wish you a speedy recovery from your injuries and a speedy recovery from your alcoholism.
Good to hear that as a result of your drunk driving accident you made a lifelong decision to abstain from drinking. Stick to it, no matter what!

You may or may not be alcoholic. Regardless, when you do drink, it takes over and you have no control. Why risk having things get worse...because believe me when I say things get worse...never better.
Glad you're here...and alive to tell the tale.
Once we take that first drink - we never, ever know what might happen - the only defense against doing something like this is to not take that first drink.
I'm glad you made it through and thank you for sharing your experience with us.
thank you for sharing your story. it means alot. i live in wisconsin where this happens all the time. I think that it may be god was on your shoulders and that maybe this is a wakeup call. some people do it once and die. im glad you survived. I know you say that you hope it reaches someone but at heart it should reach you the most. maybe going to aa or something with support on why you chose to drink so much may help. i know i can stop at one its another and another. sometimes it takes this type of thing to say damn i could of died. ive been there, drove through a corn feild one time. not good. if you learn from it then its good. my brother rolled his car and has a rod and stuff in his leg and still drives drunk and high. some learn some dont. i pray you learn. speedy recovery.
Hope it ain't that way with you, doesn't have to be. Best to treat it with respect though, take nothing for granted. Good luck and speedy recovery

Any of us who drove drunk (and that includes me) should be grateful for that. Some are not so "lucky."
As for "rock bottoms" -- hope so. I agree with other posters. I've heard stories galore of people doing things that arent dissimilar and then drinking again straight after. Cunning baffling powerful. that's Alcoholism. If you are an alcoholic, I hope you have a plan to stay sober. Clearly your plan wasnt working.
@ any rate, in 1987 I was 18/19, I had a real bad car accident. the things I do know was my 2 front teeth were stuck in the dash, and my fathers car came back in 4 pieces. My parents took me to our preacher and he said i was here for a reason.
Fast forward 20 years,,several more DWI's and car accidents,, I finally decided to take an honest look at myself.
I am truly grateful you are alive and everybody else is to,,,maybe you are here for a reason, but help yourself first.
I thought my boyfriend hit rock bottom when he crashed his car and got a DUI, and was sent to rehab. But it wasn't. A month after he was out of rehab he started drinking again. His rock bottom supposedly is now, with me moved out and him living with his dad again. But to be honest I don't even know if this really is his rock bottom.
I hope this was a wake up call and your rock bottom. Not only for you but for the people in you life.
