Alcoholic Tantrums.
When I first came into recovery and over time certain things were revealed to me. And one was how immature I was. It was as though I had grown physically but mentally and emotionally I was still that kid who picked up that first drink.
One example was when I was about three months into recovery I had lost my licence for 5 years because of my seventh DUI charge and I was at the shopping centre with my wife and children my wife drove us there.
Any way in the shopping mall we were wondering around looking at different stores and in one particular shop I was looking at some clothes when my wife said hurry up we have to get the groceries and get home.
I dont know what happened but I just snapped Like a 4 year old and chucked and alcoholic tantrum / Childish tantrum same thing I started yelling at the top of my voice and told my wife to F**K of in front of everyone .(yes the whole store was looking at this 40 year old man acting like a child), just leave me alone and go and get the groceries yourself.
She said to me if I keep this up I could walk home so I cursed a bit more stamped my feet put my arms behind my back and said I will and started to walk of. I got to the exit of the Mall when I realised what had just happened I didnt know if I should laugh or cry.
I sat down for a minute said the serenity prayer a half a dozen times then I had a decision to make to walk home or go back and apologise to my wife and children for what seemed like the trillionth time.
If nothing changes Nothing changes so I went back .And although my wife wasnt to happy we all left together. One thing the program has helped me with is growing up and today I am not that kid any more in a 40 year old body I have matured mentally and emotionally I am now a 18 year old in a 59 year old body.lol.
When I was drinking a lot of the time I drank with older men because they drank the way I did and in recovery I wanted to hang around the younger people as I could relate to them strange. Not really I know why. I hadn't grown Mentally or Emotionally.
Has anyone else had similar experiences or noticed how alcohol/alcoholism kept them mentally or emotionally at or around the age they picked up a drink.
Ill have to get a life.

Lionel, I laughed out loud when I was reading yours. I can relate very well!! My poor family and what they went through when I was newly sober. This time around all of my family are in different states and I live alone. My cats don't give a shit about what I say or do. LOL
I have noticed a lot of progress in myself and handling situations much, much differently than I would have a few months ago. Amazes me actually. ;)

I try to muster up all my good decision making brain for my Mommy duties, and then kind of let it slide with other stuff. Kind of like what I did when I worked-I would act all professional during the day and then not so much in my personal life.
I need more balance with this for sure.

Hah! I didn't begin to feel like a grown up until about my 8th year!!!
Went from hissy fits and tantrums to playing aeroplanes in the paddock and behaving like happy children on a trip to the zoo. And the growth began. Still act it out now and then.

Getting much better however
Though I could not make direct amends, I had a very different attitude and tone today on the phone with the same insurance company.
OMG! I can learn from my mistakes!!!!!

I don't know if this is good or bad but I enjoyed reading your replies .There seems to be a pattern here a lot of similarities not many differences . gr8ful I also grew up with my children in recovery I learnt a lot from them .Patience comes to mind. Enjoying the moment is another.
I remember one time my wife talking to her friend on the phone and saying what do you mean 4 children I have five I think she was talking about me as the fifth.
One more on maturity then that's it for me. After nine months in recovery my wife had the opportunity to go back to Denmark to visit her family I stayed at home with the children we have 3 girls and a boy they were 14,11,9,4 at the time.
One morning I found myself in a blow for blow argument (verbal) with my 11 year old daughter about what she was wearing to school across the breakfast bar.
.We were yelling at each other as 11 year olds when I suddenly realised and said under my breath your supposed to be the father and a thought came to me my wife was right again I was still a child .I think in the four weeks my wife was away I grew a lot. Mind you against my will.lol
Thx for helping me reflect on the past and being thankful for what I have today.
