Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
But just like Coogee said , through step work and for me some outside help I found what shaped my attitudes and became willing to take steps to help remedy its glaring effects.... The first being. not drinking, because drinking , always exaggerated My glaring personalty traits and made me want to drink more To numb the pain and sense of inferiority

Personality is based on the individual's distinct and consistent outlooks and actions or overall style of behavior. Inherited or biological traits are not personality traits except inasmuch as they influence behavior. For example, if level of energy is an inherited trait, a person could be predisposed to having a highly energized and active personality or a passive and "laid back" one. Even so, many aspects of the person's personality would remain to be filled out by the person's life experiences, particularly within the family. Obviously, many other biological traits such as height are not part of personality, although they may influence it. Some other examples and counter-examples of personality traits: achievement orientation is a personality trait while intelligence is not; a bright or optimistic outlook (or a negative, pessimistic one) is a personality characteristic while a set of political beliefs is not.

The trick is not to let your "problem" be an excuse for your behavior, including drinking.

I think most everyone has personality problems, the difference is me, being the drunk, drank to cover, enhance etc my personality problems, whereas the normies recognize emotions as regular human emotions and let it ride.
1st of all-AA is much more than meetings, meetings did not get me sober and I am not sober today because of meetings.
It's not "talking about it at aa meetings" that is the solution. Letting go of old crap and learning how to keep from adding new crap through the 12 step work with my sponsor is what has helped me.
2nd-as far as the "6%" recovery rate goes, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have no idea where these numbers come from because I think it's impossible to calculate.
I have been in aa for over a year and no one has ever asked me to "sign in" in order to be counted and no one has ever called or come to my door to ask me if I am in aa and if I am sober.
So I can only imagine that if I have not been included in these statistics, I can't be the only one who hasn't been "counted".

Hope is very much alive in these people who are dying. Hope not just that their lives will be spared, but for their families and loved ones around them, and those also suffering. It was the Chemo-kids in their last stages that gave me Hope and inspiration to keep going. They have Hope not just for their days left here, but for what they believe lay ahead of them. Sorry, this one was close to home.
