Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Many of those things that I would have listed as triggers in order to justify the cause are probably still there today but it has been a long time since I had the urge to drink. I had to find a way of removing that obsession and to learn new ways of dealing with living so that alcohol no longer comes into the equation. I made plans too but in my case they all failed eventually. In the end I asked for help and copied what the people who were sober and happy did.
Joy and pain
Success and failure
Checks in the mail
Bills in the mail
The death of my mother
The birth of my children
Getting a great job
Being fired
O, an the biggest trigger...
Days that ended in y...
The whole of life could be a trigger when you think about it so a new way of living and being was essential for this alcoholic.

I'm not trying to make excuses for my behavior. I know if he was cured tomorrow, I'd probably want to drink and celebrate.
Sorry to hear about your husband being sick and I hope that he gets well soon.
If you have a problem with alcohol you will always find a reason to drink. That is why it is important to do something that will change your way of thinking so that you will have other ways to deal with life, the good and the bad.

Glad you are committed to staying sober.
Now what? What will you be willing to do to stay sober?
For me it was risk people knowing the truth, face fears, and swallow the pride that was killing me.
Help is out here if you want it! Sounds like you do need it regardless....
I know I can do this. I need to make more of an effort to stay busy from 6pm until bedtime. Boredom in the evening isn't helping the situation.
Unfortunately for nearly all alcoholics, the list of triggers is way more than one, and we are lucky to discover half of them.
1is2, I always love your posts, but that one was so perfect.
Whether my day is a 1 or a 10, drinking was always part of it.
Now it doesn't matter what the day is for me, it's a day without alcohol.
