I did not do the what if's I just dealt with them as they came. Most everything has been FAR much better than when I was sloshed. But what isn't is only because I covered them up with alcohol to begin with. It's all about living an HONEST sober life. Even if things are a little rocky at least you are not killing yourself with booze. Your body is healing and everything else will fall into place, if it doesn't you deal with it sober.

Should of, could of, and ifing keeps me from appreciating what I have at this very moment. Early in my recovery my sponsor had me write a daily accomplishment list. It had to be very detail. Instead of say I got dressed. I wrote I comb my hair, brushed my teeth, took a shower, ate breakfast, went to 2 meetings, etc. Because when I was using/drinking I neglected myself in every way imaginable.

This is why we do this deal ONE DAY AT A TIME.. Had I not relapsed after 10 years sober where would I have been. That is of no importance at this moment. What is awesome is I am sober today. I have been blessed with people who love me. Along with a view earthly possessions. And the quality of my program is more important than the quantity of time I have. I reach out to God, My HP each and everyday. Knowing He has my best interest in mind. If I live in yesterday, worry about tomorrow, I miss the blessings of this day. Keep coming back. Seek for hope. I found in early sobriety it wasn't so much that everything around me changed, or wasn't the life I wanted. My perception had changed. I had to adjust, not just to my family (and them to the sober me) but to how I felt about things. I was hypersensitive at times. I felt "out of sorts," a bit discontent, and sometimes outright cranky. Then other days everything was sunshine and roses.

It's a big adjustment. Give it time.

What if the opposite happens?

Your absolutely right, I was looking at things to negatively, I was merely expressing my fears, I have learned that nobody is to blame for my drinking but myself. And it's up to me to make my life better and easier. I hurt a lot of wonderful people over the years and I hope it's not to late to fix it and learn from it. And if it is to late , nobody to blame but myself

There is always hope that people will forgive when you behave in ways that show you wish for forgiveness. But it takes time and that means you need patience. I think we tend to want everything fixed today and it is hard to wait. People that love you will see the change and eventually respond. We never know what the future holds, but we have to try our best to fix what we broke. Also I think it is perfectly fine to express your fears as a way to work through them.

What if sobriety changed your life in a way that was unbelievable? What if you found out you loved being sober? What if all those reasons you think you drank, weren't really reasons at all? What if-What if-What if?
