in my not so honest opinion, ldyjane. supposedly, a dry drunk is one who is the same miserable sob that they were when they were drinking. i do not believe for one instant that if you don't do aa that you are a dry drunk. in fact, in my group we have more than a few who have worked the steps--they say--but atill are miserable sob's. i think they are the ones who forgot where they came from or have lost an attitude of gratitude and traded humility for arrogance. personally, if i were to label people (i'm not) i have found this type of human being in every realm both in and out of the rooms of aa.

You have been on this site much longer than me and should know better. Even I know after only 2 weeks that this will have them all crawling out of the woodwork with their polarised views

It is clear to me from what I ahve learned on this site that the term is not at all helpful
In short it is not

I used to think I was a sly drunk, but I wasn't fooling anyone but myself.

Helping family through different treatments, I've heard dry drunk to mean an alcoholic who stops but doesn't get help for the real problems. Just like Boleon said.
