Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I know that Non-alcoholic beer is a controversal topic amoung recovery for alcoholics and abusers.
I'm currently on Day 24 - no alcohol for 24 days! Go me! However, on Friday and Saturday nights, I've been drinking a couple of Bitburger Drive (0.0% alcohol) "beers". I don't see a problem with this myself because it certainly hasn't made me want "the real stuff" but I suppose everyone is different. It actually seems to "do the trick" for me except that there's no alcohol.
My favourite drink was beer, I would love coming home to a beer (or several) in the afternoons, especially with it being in the middle of summer right now where I live, so this way I am still able to enjoy a cool, refreshing drink in the afternoon without all the sugar (such as drinking lemonade).
Has anybody else found that non-alcoholic beers were helpful or the complete opposite?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I have a feeling that most people are going to see it as a trigger. I wonder if it depends on how long you've been struggling or different relationships with alcohol?

It seems to be a trigger to many but if it works for you then that can be a decent alternative to the stronger poison. Good luck with that!
God Bless!
What I found most helpful was making a complete break with past practices and thinking that included alcohol intake. For me personally, this made perfect sense once I admitted to myself the real reason why I drank. I would formerly have listed many reasons for drinking but those things were only a camouflage and the one and only real reason was alcoholism.
As I understand it there is no such thing as 0.0% alcohol beer, although some beers come close to zero. There are different designations in different countries; for example, in the U.K. a beer has to have an alcohol level of less than 0.05% in order to be designated as “no alcohol” while in the US the figure is higher 0.5% and in Australia the term "light beer" refers to any beer with less than 3% alcohol which is pretty high.
I used to associate alcohol with certain types of work and leisure activities and was convinced that I could not actually do those things at all without drinking. What I have found is that all sorts of other drinks work just as well, including plain old free water.
I cannot speculate on whether drinking low alcohol beer would eventually lead you to the “real stuff” but why take the chance when there are plenty of alternatives?
