Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I am sure others will identify if you tell us about yourself, how you got sober and for how long and what made you decide to quit.
I got sober 10 years ago on feb 8. My wife kicked me out of the house because she got tired of me drinking and when I wouldn't leave, she called the police who took me to detox instead of jail. I was in detox for 4 days then went through outpatient treatment followed by 3 months of counseling. Throughout all the treatment I had, regular attendance at AA meetings were a requirement.
10 years later, I continue to live my life by the 12 steps and I have never been happier.
God Bless
10 years!!! That’s something to be proud of.
Sounds like a pity party. I guess in a sense it is.
The only thing holding you back is you. You’ve got this! That’s why this community is great. There’s a good support system here.
Do this. Start your own post here. That way you’ll get some great feedback and some guidance. Not wanting to put you off, I just know you’d get so much more out of doing that because others can see your questions. The other family members would be benefited as well through the comments.
It doesn’t have to be long. Just give a little background. & maybe a thing or two which stands out in your head as what’s been the breaking point for you. Don’t go away. Do this & allow this group to be there for you. There’s some great insight from alcoholics themselves. I’ll be waiting to see your post. :-))

This may sound simplistic but I remember my dad telling me, we all make mistakes, that's why they put erasers on pencils, but some mistakes I made to other human beings often seemed to severe to just erase, so I have learn to let them go and give them to my Higher Power with this Prayer: "Take this from me and look upon it, judging it for me. Let me not see it as a sign of sin and death, nor use it for destruction. Teach me how not to make it an obstacle to peace but let You use it for me, to facilitate it's coming. ""
God Bless
When I was drinking I was on a path to self destruction - I didn't care if I got hurt or died but when I drove a few times over the limit, I never once gave consideration to those innocent people that through my own selfishness could have gotten injured or killed.
I thank the big man upstairs every single day that I didn't hurt or kill anyone.
Well done for kicking the booze - together through these forums we can share our experiences in the hope that we can help others make the right decisions before it's too late. Giving up the booze versus the continued path of self destruction, shame, regret, unhappiness and loneliness ????? It takes a strong person to kick the booze and I did it, you've done it so lets help others do it xxx
