Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I copied the below from my journal on this site to share. I hope it's not too long. I just want you all to know where I'm at, and let you know how appreciative I am for your support. Hugs to everyone. Feeling thankful.
Between being 4 days sober and reading and commenting on different peoples comments here, I have realized that rather than seeing if I can just cut back my drinking to the weekends only, and not more than 6 drinks total, that instead, I want to experience the whole year of 2014 sober.
One of the members here posted something like "What do you miss about drinking" and there were a lot of responses. My response was that I did not miss all of the drinks after the second one, which was every night. I would not completely ruin my next day, but there were more days that I felt bad instead of good, and it became a very negative thing in my life.
So I am back on my antidepressant and feeling much better with both my anxiety and depression, and there is much less stress in my life, so I thought I should cut back on my drinking, and start off by not drinking for 10 days. This is what I've realized: There is a good chance that it may be possible for me to go back to drinking moderately, but there is a bigger chance that I will go back to drinking the way I was (4 to 7 drinks a day every day) eventually. It's just in my nature, at least right now.
I feel so good and strong about my decision. I am not missing alcohol at all. Luckily, besides getting headaches (which normally I never get) I am not having any bad physical symptoms. I wake up every day feeling better than the day before.

Dick Van Dyke’s path to sobriety was a turning point in his life and career. Here’s what happened:How He Got SoberStruggles and Realization: Van Dyke began drinking as a teenager, largely to cope with shyness and social anxiety. Alcohol made him feel more comfortable in social settings, but over time, his drinking spiraled out of control. By his mid-40s, he recognized that he had an addictive...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

Probably for the best that you want to eliminate the drinking completely... For me, if there were two in the fridge, I'd drink those and be done. Now, if there were four in there, good chance I might have all four, etc., etc... Not even with the intention of drinking too much - it would "just happen".
So, keep up with it - before you know it, the days will turn in to weeks, then months, and before you know it a whole year. :)
Thing is that after i quit for awhile i easily forgot how bad it really was. I need to be reminded. I am an alchy. but today I didnt drink and I feel so glad for that fact.
Glad you are sober. Keep it up!

There is a real difference between the Fellowship and meetings and the Program of Recovery. The Program can only be found in the Basic Text for Alcoholics Anonymous; "ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS."
We recover by the Steps we take, not the meetings we make
