Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

As meditation is mentioned in AA and has been very helpful to me I'd like to hear how others do it and the role it plays in their sobriety.
What I do is focus on the breath to quiet the mind. As I inhale I say to myself, "positive in". And as I exhale I say, "negative out". My mind tends not to wander much that way, and I can easily redirect should other thoughts intrude. I enter a more relaxed state that is very important and useful to me given my comorbid illness of bi-polar.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I have a similar thought.....love in, love and empathy out -- to others.
I also listen to a guided 10 ms meditation podcast too sometimes. Helps.
I like your way a lot. It adds the added dimension of concentration on very specific worthy ideal. Thanks a lot...
I always wondered where they learned the method that they teach today. It's centuries old and was taught by the Buddha,
In no. 118 he gives directions for the in and out breathing.

Bill W said that you must learn meditation from the experts outside of AA.
Good to learn from those in the know though...my eyes were opened when I really looked to the many different forms and schools of meditation which have been practised for 1000s of years...even young buddha learnt it from someone else :)

I was before i learned mindful meditation.
I went to an AA meeting at the headquarters in NY many years ago. The topic was the 11th step. An old man with many years sobriety, who had Bill W as his sponsor, when he first came into AA said that Bill sent him out to find a meditation group to learn meditation.
