Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Still, I can't for the life of me understand why I always feel compelled to drink when it always makes me feel like shit the next day. It is obvious that since starting zoloft, so much as one drink can severely impact me. And yet, day after day I continue to destroy myself with this nonsense.
If I am ever to get better, I need to stop.I'm being treated for panic attacks, and yet I cause them by drinking. It makes no sense.

So I have been having a lot of health issues and my cardiologist felt that he didn't get clear enough images of my heart in the office, so he wanted to do a Trans-esophegeal heart Echocardiocgram in the hospital. I was pretty nervous about it, because I've never had any procedures related to my heart or any other major organs. I've had knee surgery and thyroid surgery, but to me anything to do...

I knew better and I drank anyway. Why? Because I was addicted to alcohol.
Thinking that is was stupid to keep drinking or that I would be better off if I stopped wasn't enough for me. I would not say to myself, "hey, let's drink 10 shots of vodka tonight, that sounds like a healthy idea!" Like you, I was compelled to drink. So I could not rationalize or intellectualize my way to sobriety. I had to choose, deep within, to give myself back my life.
Keep coming back. You are not alone.
I swear to GAWD that should have stopped me but, well, I just stopped taking the pills and boozed happily along.....
Good luck.
Our drinking never makes sense Kuno- that's the rub with alcoholic behavior. We do it even though it causes harm. Your depression and panic attacks can be treated if you remove alcohol from the equation though. Stop trying to moderate, and try quitting completely. See how you feel after 30 days.....I'll bet you'll see a great improvement.
Toward the end, I was almost looking for someone to tell me I had to stop drinking...but I always got that 'in moderation' answer. Little did they know what moderation meant to me.
If you think it might be a problem, it probably is. Stop drinking and you may just not need the zoloft at all!
