Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
The quick fix will only work for a while and then no matter how much you drink it will not make you feel better. You can get out of the liquid handcuffs but you need to have someone to help you with the key. Maybe it is time to make that call.
The only real fix is stopping drinking. It takes some time to regain the alcohol free clarity in the brain. Believe me, it exists.
And I'm not on 7, 8, or 40 years. I'm on like day 125 or something... So in relation to many here, I'm just as new to this sobriety thing as you are.
Me and my wife don't fight like we used to with alcohol. My marriage is better, my focus is better, my health is better. I feel smarter. It sounds dumb. But alcohol holds us back from many promising things in life. It can prevent or destroy careers, romantic relationships, family relationships, and friendships.
You can learn in AA that there's far more work than just stopping drinking. Working on character defects is a big part of it.
In fact, I think I'm gonna write a song with it!
Put your efforts into that. Just like that drink that relieves the stress? Instead, substitute it with writing down your feelings. With how you seem so in touch with your feelings, you could send awesome, powerful messages to others!
We recover by the Steps we take, not the meetings we make
If someone had offered you the keys to your cell, would you have said "no thanks, I'm used to being here" or would you have grabbed those keys and run to freedom?? People here are offering you the keys to those liquid handcuffs. You need to grab them because you are still locked up my friend!
Believe or not, that happened to me. I chose to go back to jail and had to go before a judge to GET BACK IN JAIL. That is where I felt safest and most comfortable. That is where I knew I would not drink. How sick is that?
The different posts on here make sense, but ive got to have the balls to do it. Scary and hard but achievable. x
Yes, it's a long story. Not anything of late, but felt like I could not control myself and the safest place to be was in jail. Not prison. Have never been to a prison but I hear that is a whole different story. Hope I never go there.
But I have associated with others that have been in prison and they actually wanted to go back because they did not trust themselves enough to not drink and believed what saved them was being in a prison cell.
