Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
So what *is* your plan? Happy Hour? Doesnt sound so happy to me. Not in early sobriety.
Isolation isnt good either.
So what is the plan?
My plan is to live a happy sober life surrounded by positive people. Not all of these people will be foregoing alcohol. That's okay. It doesn't make them bad people and my sobriety doesn't make me a better one.
I believe in my higher power and in my case it's determination and will power.
I learned from my disaster that I went back to escape reality. I wanted to go back to never land and avoid the pain in my life. My girlfriend died. Six months later my father and son died a week apart. I learned something. In war torn Iraq many lose a lot more relatives than that in one day and they don't go to alcohol to escape.
Yes, I had a lot of day ones but I believed there was an answer somewhere and I finally found the one that served me well. Your path, my path, Fred's path, Susie's path are all striving for a common goal, a happy and permanent sobriety.
Antonia, I couldn't agree more. I've tried so many different day 1's. This is the first time it feels right and not like torture. Will it last? I think so. Will I relapse? With my history, odds are in my favor to do just that.
All I can do is take it one day at a time.
I feel so lucky. Many who fall after numerous years of sobriety never make it back.
Falling early on is a good reminder that you cannot control the drinking. Once you get that out of your head it get easier. Another trick is accepting life as it is and not trying to escape with alcohol.
Congrats to you for picking yourself up after so much tragedy. I only hope I can be as strong as you are.
Also my husband drinks socially, as does my best friend and we have booze in the home. But I didnt go to "happy hour" in my first few months of sobriety. Wasnt worth the risks. I went to parties with booze, to work events with booze, but always *always* with an exit plan.
Good luck with self will and determination. I do hope it works out for you.
Hugs~
