Good morning. I know the next 2 weeks are very difficult for us drunks but hold steady. It's not that bad and it's so awesome to get to January 2 and just keep on truckin' with a clear head and a hopeful spirit. Don't use the holidays as an excuse for anything. Don't feel sorry for yourself b/c everyone else can drink. Boo freakin' hoo. Just carry on with life sober and happy. Think back to your childhood and how great the holidays were.....well, you didn't drink then so no reason to drink now. Happy Holidays my courageous and clear-minded friends.

Hi. Thanks for your reinforcing and encouraging message! This is my first sober holiday season and it hasn't been as difficult as I'd thought. I've quit going out for NYE a long time ago. I might treat myself to a bottle of sparkling cranberry juice. Not even because it would remind me of champagne. It was in the Trader Joe's ad and i thought it sounded good and refreshing. That's it .

I remember too many New Year's Days when I'd wake up bound and determined with a resolution to quit drinking and by mid-afternoon, I'd be hitting the wine. Not this year!

Good luck everybody! We can all do this.

I love your point: think back to your childhood and how great the holidays were and how we didn't drink back then.

Yes i too sometimes long for the days before i cracked my first seal. Oh well boo fing hoo.. i like the positive approach.

One thing i will add is that the first time around i would drink near beer and that was what got me to trip up and fall off the wagon. I was at a holiday party, probably around 2006 and looked at the ppl around me and just said f it. I want a big old real one. that was when I went down the worm hole for 2 more years.

Great post. 1is2many thanks too for the reminder to all of us how dangerous "non alcoholic" beer is for alcoholics. I'll stick to proper non alcoholic drinks like tea, water, soda for a treat, etc.
last night my parents and husband drank a lot of beer and wine. I was grateful to be able to drive the kids to see christmas lights, and to sneak around playing Santa after 10 pm.
Sobriety rocks.
