Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

All around us the survival instinct, no longer needed for most of us for material survival , has raged on as if there is no off switch.
Tiger Woods , for example, : He had a gazillion dollars, makes a bazillion a year, is at the top of profession, beloved, two healthy kids and did I mention a smokin hot wife who makes about a half a bazillion a year. Living beyond most people's wildest dreams. Yet, it wasn't enough!
Incediably, the world of the rich, famous and accomplished is full of such tales. Then there's the CEO who makes 7 figures but is too busy making more to be at his kids games and concerts.
So is part of what we are taught by this wonderful program how to shut down that out of control survival instinct sometimes and to stop and smell the roses?? To just be happy for a while?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Either way, it doesn't matter to me. Money does not make my happiness!
Peace!
Yeah. Happy, joyous and free. Thats enough for this drunk...

I am not an AAer. As a drinker, getting my next drink (and even more importantly the next ten after that) was part of my survival. I thought more about getting a drink than food. Now that wanting to drink is no longer part of my day, I am much happier. And as you say, I do stop to smell the roses.
So I guess I just answered my own question....
Trust this. The grass is not always greener on the other side!
life in the fast lane...surely makes ya lose your mind...
I'd rather take public transportation than the fast lane in a Ferrari! If I was wealthy enough to own a ferrari, I'd be dead within a year...this I know!
Hal & I get about $20.00 worth of scratch offs now and then. Yesterday, he went out to get some, came home and we started scratching. We're happy when one of us wins $2.00. It's more of a game to us.
Well, on one ticket, I had 5 $20.00 winners. $100.00!! I've never won that much but rather than be thrilled with that, I continued scratching the other tickets, with expectations of winning $1,000!
I came to my senses quickly but that's how fast my instincts for survival can become unreasonable and if they stay that way, l'm off and running with my disease. I've learned to laugh not only with others but at myself. Instincts gone or shut down? LOL, I think not
