Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
AA saved my life. With that being said, I'm beginning to resent a newcomer at my home group. The group has several newcomers currently. Some who have the gift of desperation and some who's parents/wife/lawyers have the gift of desperation. I feel that one of these guys is toxic and particularly dangerous. One of the newcomers, who I believe is really trying to get better, is having difficulty putting 30 days together. He keeps coming back and admits when he slips. Now, when he does this, the toxic dude cheers him on. Not about coming back, but about drinking and smoking. I remember how difficult it was early on dealing with cravings and the confusion. I remember that it didn't take much to rationalize the next drink. I'm fearful that such actions buy the toxic DURING A FRIGGIN AA MEETING may be just enough for the guy to rationalize the next drink. I'm certainly not going to suggest anyone not come back. It's just that it's hard enough in the beginning without having such d!cks around. I'm not the director.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I also mark my Journal to be read only by friends on DS. We get more intimate sharing our Journals.
When I deal with others at meetings I remember I am speaking to ""persons not personalities"" and I accept others where they are on their own journey's. The only person I can control is myself and I try not to make judgments about others as we all have our own lives to deal with.
Try not to let it bother you. I really believe that everything happens for a reason and our Higher Power is directing the show, as you said.
God Bless
I think this is where autonomy is key, each group has the power to operate itself, and if the group committee decides that groups definition of being an alcoholic is a desire to stop, and that group also decides this individual clearly has no desire to stop, wanting others to continue drinking, I think it is acceptable to make the meeting closed, and suggesting to him with action he is harming the group, by doing what he is doing.
This guy is court ordered? This guy is court ordered, doesn't want to stop, and clearly an example of "being sick" in AA? I think this is what I am hearing.
Most importantly the traditions have the answers for the problems of all groups. There is a nice story in the 12 and 12 about a belligerent drunk who speaks against the need for a higher power in the meetings. He is passionate and disruptive some might say, and of course he eventually drinks, but then sees the light and becomes a believer who knows God is key to living sober. The new guy who is anti-AA, in a damn AA meeting (LOL!), might have a miracle ahead of him, in where it is a story of seeing the light eventually and using that experience to help others. That sick guy cheerleading, might change, and if you kick him out of the meeting, he might get a greater resentment on top of his already resented attitude of not wanting to be there.
Love and tolerance of others is our code.
One thing I've learned in AA is my judgment on who is going to "get it" and who is not is very poor, consistently I think the nice guy or the guy not causing problems is the right prospect to spend the time with, but more often than not, the guys or gals that look like they just got off a vacation from hell, amaze me in how quickly they change and how helpful they become for others.
