I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

We hope you can make a life long commitment to sobriety. I know that sounds like alot but we do it one day at a time. Not a good idea to think too far ahead ..
Are you quitting cold turkey or have you thought of a plan? Usually people need something to motivate them to get sober.
In any case, we hope you keep coming back here. You will find lots of great people who has success quitting in many different ways.
Good luck on your road to sobriety. May you find peace and better health along the way
God Bless
I often wake up in the morning amazed at how the healing I can accomplish during the day can keep going in my subconscious.
It’s the opposite of anxiety. It’s solving the issues not adding to them.
Bobs right about shifting the thinking to a lifelong change while working it one day at a time. When I accepted that alcohol couldn’t be a part of my life anymore it was easier to let it go. Kind of like when a relationship gets so bad that both people know it’s not working. It makes the breakup gentler. Because it’s the best choice.
Bests. Let us know how your doing
The harm was, a loved one witnessed the whole thing, and I think that convinced them that I really was a real alcoholic and hadn't been shit for so long because of it directly.
That night was a night I never want to repeat, even though the rum felt like heaven, the deeper knowledge that the whole event was traumatizing for my family member, reminds me how pervasive alcoholism is, and ultimately hurts others just as much as it hurts the alcoholic.
Make a long story short, a couple months after that night, God removed the obsession or the need for me to drink, but I was left with untreated alcoholism, that played a role in me then vandalizing property after not getting my way and took me into a system that had very unfavorable characters inside it to say the least.
When I got honest with my "help" they did get me into a rehab, where someone came in and offered to help me treat my alcoholism through Alcoholics Anonymous and behavioral therapy, and my life has never been better since.
The breakthrough moment for me was admitting to a very sweet counselor that I had hoped the diagnosis was incorrect, and that admission allowed the buried grief inside of me I was holding onto because I was a born alcoholic and very embarrassed by it to flow out and go somewhere else.
I then went to meetings daily, read and wrote daily, said prayers daily, talked to a sponsor long enough to finish the steps, and became committed to a life where I no longer determine what will be done and do what I am asked to do unselfishly.
I've never had more money, more interest, more respect, and more confidence in my life since I decided to treat my alcoholism and get serious about it being a reality in my plan and life going forward.
I do not share it freely in the world, but treating my alcoholism, through a relationship with a higher power, is the core of all my joy and achievement in life now, and although very challenging at times, was well worth the effort and time given towards.
I wish you the best and please do not hesitate to ask for help on this end if you need to.
God Bless
